Daniel Carroll Obituary

Daniel J. Carroll 1927 - 2016
Beloved Husband and Devoted Father
LEESBURG, VA - Daniel J. Carroll (age 89) died at his home in Leesburg, VA, on April 22, 2016, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
He was born in Oriskany, NY, the son of Thomas and Teresa Carroll, and brother of Helena and Mary. He served as class president for four years and captained each athletic team at Oriskany High. After attending spring training with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he was offered a minor league contract that he turned down, opting instead to enter the U.S. Army in 1945.
After military service, he graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University and studied Industrial Relations at LeMoyne College. While in college, he captained the baseball and basketball teams. In 1971, he was inducted as one of five starters on Utica College's all time all star basketball team.
He had over forty years of experience in four major industries: electronics, steel, computers and plastics. He began his career in Utica, NY, with General Electric, followed by Alleghany International (Pittsburgh), Computer Science Corporation (Northern Virginia) and retired as a Vice President at Rehau Corporation in Loudon County, VA.
Mr. Carroll was an avid sports fan and a well-known athlete in Central NY. He coached several semi-pro baseball and basketball teams in central NY and coached his sons in Babe Ruth baseball.
Mr. Carroll was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church where he was a member of the Seniors Club and the Eucharistic adoration group.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanette Furgal Carroll; four sons, Thomas (Elizabeth), John (Maureen), Daniel (Linda) and Michael (JoAnne); three daughters, Anne-Marie Mazza (Carlo) , Elizabeth Trang (Trung), Mary Hiyama (Roger); nineteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by twin sons, Patrick and Stephen.
His greatest joys were celebrating the holidays with his family, watching sports and discussing politics. He will be missed and remembered most for his deep faith, kindness, lively conversation, and wonderful sense of humor.
Relatives and friends will be received at the Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA, from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday (today), April 24, 2016. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 25, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Loudon Interfaith Relief, 750 Miller Drive SE, Leesburg, VA 20175 or Capital Caring Hospice, 24419 Millstream Drive, Aldie, VA 20105.
