Donald Urbanke Obituary

Donald N. Urbanke 1936 - 2018
NEW HARTFORD - Donald N. Urbanke, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 7th, 2018, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Corinth, NY, on August 1, 1936, Don was the son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Coleman) Urbanke. On June 7, 1958, Don married the love of his life, Barbara. The two shared 60 years of amazing love and dedication. A heart transplant recipient for 20 years, Don had a second chance at living out his life with her by his side. He was truly a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a true gentleman. As a very religious man, he was committed to his faith in God, and his family is comforted that he is at peace in the arms of The Lord.
Don was a very active, dedicated Rotarian and an original charter member and founder of The New Hartford Rotary Club for 58 years. He received many awards for his service and served as President and currently as the club historian. One of his passions with the club was a book project he organized every year. He shared his love of reading by having personalized books donated to every kindergarten student in the New Hartford School District. In addition to his love of reading, he was an avid bowler and loved to golf, play cards with his wife, and spend time with his friends in Florida. Don owned and operated a successful insurance agency for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara, and their five children and their spouses, Jeff (Wendy), Craig (Paula), Brian (Brenda), Steven (Jenna) and daughter, Amy Rizzuto; his grandchildren who he idolized and loved, David, Brandon, Caitlyn, Craig, Nick, Corey, Carter, Tyler and Dylan; also, his great-grandchildren, Colton and Caiden. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia and Joyce; many nieces and nephews; and many friends, especially his longtime and special friends, Dave Murphy and Joe Sczupak.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Alvin and Paul, and his sister, Pauline.
Don was the foundation and rock for his family and he will continue to inspire those that he loved. The family will honor and celebrate his life on Thursday, December 13, Noon, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Calling hours will be Wednesday, December 12, at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, from 4-7 p.m.
Donations in his name can be made to St. Jude's, The American Heart Association and Organ Donation.
