NEW YORK MILLS - Edward W. Labuz passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 202,1 after a brief battle with COVID-19, with his loving wife and daughter by his side.
He was born in New York Mills, on November 13, 1946, to the late Rudy and Nellie (Ruszala) Labuz. Edward grew up in New York Mills, where he graduated from its high school. Edward wed his childhood sweetheart, Ethel Jury, the love of his life, on September 7, 1968. They shared a blessed marriage of over 52 years. Edward began his career in the U.S. Navy, where he was trained to be an Electrician. He was employed by the IBEW Local #43, for many years, prior to accepting a position with the Mohawk Correctional Facility, Rome, where he worked as an Electrician until his retirement.
Edward enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, watching golf and DVDs. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. Ed was a kind hearted and loving man that would do anything for anyone.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ethel; a loving daughter, Laura Fairbrother and her husband, Michael Fairbrother; grandchildren, Michael Fairbrother, Matthew Fairbrother, Tyler and Erin Williams, Lauren and Edmund Williams, Kate Williams and Kara Williams; and a loving son-in-law, John Williams. He is also survived by an uncle and aunt, Walter and Ruthy; several cousins; in-laws, Rose Ann Labuz, Gertrude Gravatt and Richard Fonner; and many friends and extended family members.
He was preceded in death and reunited with a loving daughter and son, Gina Williams and Edward Labuz, II; two brothers, Ronald Labuz and Rudolph Labuz; and a sister-in-law, Robin Fonner.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no public calling hours. Mr. Labuz's funeral will take place on Saturday morning at 11:00 at Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, New York Mills. Social distancing, registration for contact tracing and a mask covering your nose and mouth will be required.
