Gloria Duniec Obituary

Gloria Duniec 1930 - 2016
COLCHESTER, CT - The family of Gloria Duniec mourns her passing on October 16, 2016.
Born in Utica, NY, to Vito and Lena Guarnieri, Gloria enjoyed her childhood, along with her siblings, growing up in the family delicatessen, established by her father at their homestead at the corners of Bacon and Blandina Streets in East Utica. She was united in marriage to Edward J. Duniec, and together they raised four children. Gloria was a hardworking woman who furthered in the employ of several proprietors who continued in the success of the family business. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker with the ability to cook and bake delicious creations. She took great pride in the fact that she could cook Italian dishes, as well as Polish dishes, with recipes shared by her sisters-in-law, Adele Lucas, Helen Zdanowicz, Mary Sczesny and Lucy Duniec.
After her husband's passing in 1990, she relocated, with her daughter and her family, to Colchester, CT, where she lived quietly and contently. She was blessed with several grandchildren of whom she was very proud. She was doubly blessed and so happy to have a great-granddaughter born in 2014.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband; her brother, Frank Guarnieri and his wife, Marie; her brother-in-law, Paul Curcio; and a very special aunt, her mother's sister, Nellie Longo.
She is survived by her children: Edward Duniec and wife, Susan, of MA; Steve Duniec and wife, Kathi, of SC, and their daughters, Marci, Talia Penninger and husband, Matt, along with their daughter, Piper, Joanne Sommers and husband, Jeff, of CT, and their son, Steve, and daughter, Staci; Victor Duniec and wife, Deborah, of NC, and their children Elizabeth, Brad and Emily. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosemarie DeFazio and husband, Frank, of Utica, NY, Doris Curcio, of Delaware, OH, and Joann Schuman and her husband, Peter, of Wynantskill, NY, Joann being her best friend and closest confidant in recent years; the oldest and the youngest of the "Guarnieri Girls". She held close to her heart several nieces, nephews and cousins and their extended families.
Arrangements are private at the request of the family.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Apple Rehabilitation and Nursing Care of Colchester, CT.
