Mr. Jeffrey S. "Jeff" Hanson, age 51, passed away unexpectedly in the privacy of his home on Sunday, June 14, 2015. Born in Utica on April 15, 1964, Jeffrey was the son of the late Raymond F. "Ray" and Amelia "Amy" (Longo) Hanson. Raised and educated in Whitesboro, he was a graduate of Whitesboro High School. He furthered his education attending the Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute. On February 1, 1986, he married the former Melanie A. Beratta, with whom he shared 29 years of love and lasting memories. A chef by trade, Jeff owned and operated Richal's Ristorante in Sylvan Beach. At the same time, he was the proprietor of The Italian Princess in Old Forge. He later established a new eatery, Gabby's Diner at the Oneida County Airport. More recently, Jeff opened his final food venue, Hanson's Starting Line Diner in Whitesboro. Jeff was a loving husband and father. He had a unique and passionate personality resulting in things going his way or no way. He adored his parents and enjoyed the "fests" with his family. Jeff also loved animals, especially his canine companion, Mia. Jeff is survived by his wife, Melanie A.; his daughter, Gabrielle R. Hanson and Daniel Reaves; his son, Jeffrey M. Hanson; and his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond M. and Margaret "Avie" Hanson. His extended family includes his nieces and nephews, Raymond P. Hanson, Jessica L. Hanson; Katelyn and her husband, Pat Burr; great-nephew, Garret; cousins; father-in-law, Robert "Bob" Beratta; sister-in-law, Jeanine M. Beratta of Boston; and many special friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Hanson, who passed away on December 2, 2006; his maternal grandparents; and his mother-in-law, Jeanette R. Beratta. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the Yorkville Police and Fire Department for their kindness and response. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jeffrey's Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish which will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. By family request, please omit floral offerings.
