Joel B. Nolan, 50, formerly of Clinton and currently of Utica, died on Friday, March 18, 2011, unexpectedly, at his residence. He was born in New Hartford on August 8, 1960, the son of Joseph and Ellen Blake Nolan, and was a member of the graduating class of 1979 from Clinton High School. While attending Clinton Schools, he was active in Youth Hockey, playing in Bantams and the Midget League. On March 20, 1982, he was united in marriage to Kelly Boyce at the Stone Presbyterian Church in Clinton, a loving union which would have been shared for 29 years today. Joel was employed with the Utica School of Commerce for 30 years. He was also the Assistant Safety Director at the Adirondack International Speedway. Joel was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. He had many passions, including NASCAR racing and spending time at his camp in New Breman, and took great pride in his Native American heritage. He was also a lover of nature and animals, including his 16 year old cat, Scout. Joel was the primary caretaker of his large family and many more. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kelly Nolan, of Utica; three cherished sons, Blake and his wife of a week, Sarah Nolan, of Utica, and Dakota and Jo Jo Nolan, both of Utica; his loving little princess granddaughter, Miya Sioux Nolan; his mother, Ellen Nolan, of Clinton; his sisters, Donna Elizabeth and Teresa Nolan, both of Clinton; his brothers, Sean C. Nolan, Joseph and his wife, Marylisa Nolan, and Matthew and his wife, Carrie Nolan, all of Clinton; his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Ronda Bogacz, of Clinton; a brother-in-law, Joseph and his wife, Josephine Bogacz, and their daughter, Rylea, of MA; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth and her husband, Mark Zyla, of Westmoreland; and a sister-in-law, Wendy Castleberry, of NH, and her children, Rachael, Rebkah and Robert Castleberry. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his father, "Indian Joe", and his brother, James Castleberry. Relatives and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College Street, Clinton.
