Joseph Booth Obituary
DEERFIELD - Dr. Joseph C. Booth, 68, of Deerfield, passed away after a brief illness, on July 17, 2020, at the Hospice Siegenthaler Center in New Hartford, with his loving wife by his side.
Joseph was born in West Hempstead, NY, on December 30, 1951, the son of Joseph W. and Helen M. (Conaty) Booth. As a young boy, his family moved to Chester, VT, where he was a graduate of Chester High School. He continued his education at the University of Vermont, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Zoology and Master's degree in Pathology. Dr. Booth then studied at St. George University School of Medicine in Grenada, where he earned his Medical Doctor degree in 1985. On July 23, 1983, Joseph was united in marriage with Donna L. Petcavage, a union of 37 years. Moving to Utica, Dr. Booth completed his Family Practice Residency at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in 1988. Shortly thereafter, he opened his own medical practice, Deerfield Family Practice, on Trenton Rd., in Deerfield, where he graciously treated thousands of families over his illustrious career spanning 30 years. Dr. Booth continued his service of treating patients, with Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., until retiring in 2018. For many years, he was the Medical Director at the Heritage Health Care Center in Utica. Dr. Booth was board certified in Family Practice, Geriatrics and Hospice and Palliative Care. He was very active in the local and national, American Medical Association (A.M.A.) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (A.A.F.P). Joe will be remembered for the love and devotion he had for his patients.
Dr. Booth is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his daughter, Alexandra Booth, of San Francisco, CA, his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas P. and Julia Booth, of Redmond, WA; and two cherished grandchildren, Aaliyah and Darius. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Helen; sister, Constance Cauldwell; and brother, Special Forces Veteran, Thomas M. Booth.
Dr. Booth's funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mark's Church, 440 Keyes Rd., N. Utica, where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4:00-7:00, at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Social distancing protocols will be observed and face coverings are required.

My Dear friend, mentor and colleague, Joe,
I moved away and just now learned of Joe's death. I am so sorry to hear this very sad news. Joe and I worked together in Palliative Care for many years and he was an amazing colleague and role model. He was a most brilliant physician--we always joked that he could cook up a wonderful pharmaceutical 'soup" to relieve the most complex pain and suffering. He was brilliant and when I had the most difficult problems he was my go-to guy. I know he was very busy but I appreciated the time he took to have coffee or lunch with me and chat about patient care or just life. We were the same "vintage" 1951, and to me, it seems he is gone way too soon. I will miss him on my visits back to NY and at Palliative Care conferences. I will miss my go-to guy, but his lessons will remain with me. Thank you Joe. My condolences to his family and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear of Dr Booth's passing. He took care of my parents and was there for my Mom and my family at the time of her death. He was an exceptionally kind, caring and empathetic man and doctor. I'm so grateful he was my parent's physician; he always treated them like a loved member of his family.

I just heard of Dr Booth’s passing.
Dr Booth was a wonderful man!!
He was my Doctor from 1988 until his retirement. I haven’t been able to find a caring Dr like him.
I will miss him very much.

I am so saddened by the loss of Dr. Booth. I had known him during my pharmaceutical career. He took such extraordinary care and time for all of his patients. He was also always so kind my colleagues and I, making time for us as well, despite all of the long long hours he devoted to his patients at the office, hospital and nursing home. One of the kindest, smartest, most devoted and most compassionate doctors and friends that I’ve known. The world is a better place because of him and his generosity, passion and legacy will live on in our hearts and minds forever. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Dr. Booth was a good kind man. He was alway available day night weekend didn’t matter. He was not only the Doc for our family for my mom, my daughter, myself my brother and many other family members and friends but a good friend. He never said no I’m too busy. When I retired from the NYPD and moved to Utica in 1998 I needed a doctor. My father Bob suggested I go to his doctor,, Dr. Booth. Dr. Booth was dedicated to his patients, he cared for my father with good care. When I LOST my husband Jim McMann he said to me, " Jimmy will be a hard act to replace". Well Dr. Booth, you are a hard act to replace. I have missed you ever since you retired. You were a great,caring family doctor. We don't have many like you today. Dr. Booth touched many hearts including his many patients who were blessed having him as their family physician. Although it's hard to imagine the world without him, it is easy to image heaven rejoicing at his returning. He used up every bit of the talent the Lord gave him to "holistically" meet the needs of his patients who he always regarded as his friends! Wife and family thank you for sharing him with us! I had the pleasure of working with Dr Booth for many years, starting back in our Faxton hospital days.
He was an intelligent, highly skilled caring compassionate physician, respectful to his patients and families but also the nurses and his coworkers. He had a gentle quality about him that made him special and the voice of reason during chaotic difficult times as he helped so many with palliative/ hospice care. RIP Dr Booth and may Gods Angels surrounds your family with love and peace.

I was his patient since day one at Deerfield Practice until he retired 2018.
I cannot put into words to learn of this heartbreaking news.
He was our communitys most brilliant caring doctor that I was honored to know and have him help me in many times of illness.
He treated my Mom for many years prior to her passing in 2003.
He is now in receipt of his eternal reward for his earthly works.
My prayers to his wife Donna and his children and all his family.
And to all the dedicated staff that worked along side of him who lost a valiant man.
