Mary S. Cassia, 86, of Clinton, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center. Mary was born on November 7, 1928, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, the daughter of Michael and Angelina (Sansone) Cariglio. She graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1949. On July 15, 1950, Mary married Anthony Cassia in St. Anthony's Church, a blessed union of 65 years. Mary was a registered nurse, employed with St. Elizabeth Hospital, and later, as a Supervisor, with Oneida County Dept. of Social Services, in the Medical Service Dept. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Surviving are her beloved husband, Anthony; children, Suzanne (Jerry) Gasz, Gary (Carmen) Cassia, Bernadette (James) Lelio, Karen (Gary) Schrader, and Lisa (Michael) Abate; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Fiesthumel and Nina (Harold) Lansing; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by sisters, Florence and Rose; and brothers, Joseph, Anthony and John. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM from the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. The family will receive guests in the church vestibule following Mass. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Mary's name may be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation at www.ccfa.org.
