Nicholas Royko Obituary
New Hartford
Nicholas (Nick) Royko, of New Hartford, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008. Nicholas was born in the Ukraine, the son of the late Simon and Maria Royko. He also lived in Poland and Germany and came to the US in 1950 with his family. Nick graduated from Utica Free Academy, MVCC and served four years in the Air Force. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Omaha, Nebraska, and a Master's degree in German language from New Paltz University. He also completed an intense course in the Art of German language at the Goethe Institute in Germany. Nick taught high school and junior colleges throughout his career. Teaching was his passion. Nick is survived by his two sisters, Anna Zabijaka and her husband, Val, MD, and Valentina (Tina) Schram and her husband, Neil, New Hartford, with whom he had close, loving relationships. He is also survived by nieces, Natalie, Melissa and Tanya; nephews, George, Paul, Rick and Bo; along with several great-nieces and nephews and other family members in the Ukraine. There are also two special high school friends, Tex and Yan. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday (today) from 5-7 p.m. at Myslinski Funeral Home, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services and interment will take place at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, New Jersey. In memory of Nick, kindly consider donations to St. Sophia Seminary, P.O.
