Devoted Husband, Loving Father and Grandfather
CLINTON - Nicholas A. Scalise, 87, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016, after having the support of his loving family during his illness and until the time of his passing at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare.
Nick was born on March 20, 1929, in Utica, the son of Ottavio and Carmella (Clerico) Scalise. Nick graduated from Proctor High School and attended MVCC. He was a US Army veteran, serving four years in Korea. On March 18, 1961, he married Ruth Coe, a blessed union of 55 years. He was employed as a Foreman at Lucas Aerospace.
Nick was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing the lotto, traveling to Las Vegas and was an avid Giants fan. Ruth's lasagna was his favorite meal.
Surviving besides his beloved wife, Ruth, are daughters, Linda (Harry) Roberts, Whitesboro, and their children, Karen, Michael and Kristen; Tammy DeAngelo, Yorkville, and her children, Nicholas, William, Shayne, Alicia and Vinny; Debra Hughes, Clinton, and her daughters, Kayla and Breanna; Sandra (Mark) Scholl, New Hartford, and their children, Amanda, James and Andrew; and Sue Hite and Warren Seeley, Rochester, and their daughters, Heather and Brittany. Also surviving are in-laws, Joan Scalise and Rosalie Scalise, both of Utica; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his special canine friend, "Lucy". Nick was predeceased by his son, Michael Scotellaro; brothers, Anthony, Pasquale and Frank; sisters, Margaret, Josephine, Philomena, Mary, Beatrice and Rose; and son-in-law, Michael Hughes.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebated on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, New Hartford. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to Nick's granddaughter, Kayla Stanek, for the care and compassion she showed her grandfather during his life. They would also like to thank Dr. Matthew Ulahannan and St. Luke's Healthcare AC2 for their devotion and attention to Nick's needs.
