Robert Pletl, Sr., 82, passed away on December 30, 2010, at the Faxton-St. Lukes Health Care Center in New Hartford. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by family members and peacefully began his journey to eternal life. He was born in Utica on January 1, 1929, a son of the late John F. and Magdaline Yager Pletl and received his education in Utica schools and later attended a trade school. During WWII, Bob proudly served with the U.S. Navy and on July 23, 1949, was united in marriage with Doris LaPan in Historic St. Johns Church in Utica. Prior to his retirement in 1994 he worked for many years at Utica Corp., most recently as a machinist. His memberships included St. Patricks-St. Anthonys Parish in Chadwicks and the I.A.M. Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Doris; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert, Jr., and Lynne Pletl, of North Brookfield, Steven Pletl and Gregory and Sue Pletl, all of Mission Viejo, CA; three grandchildren, Robert III and Olivia Pletl and their daughter Zoe, David McPletl and his children, Holdyn and Gaelyn, and Teresa and David Sambrook and their children, Jacob and Ella; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, John and Richard Pletl. A celebration of Bobs life will take place on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 at St. Patricks-St. Anthonys Church in Chadwicks. His family would like to thank Dr. Butala and his staff for the exceptional care Bob received during his illness.
