Rye King Obituary

Rye Auld King 1919 - 2017
NEW HARTFORD - Mrs. Rye Auld King, 98, died on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at her home, as a result of an unexplained house fire.
She was born on January 4, 1919, in New Hartford, a daughter of Richard Holden Auld and Gertrude Randall Auld. She graduated from New Hartford High School in 1936 and Russell Sage College Albany Hospital in 1940. She married to Harold F. King in 1941, in New Hartford and Harold died in 1999.
Mrs. King was an RN, employed as an Administrative Assistant at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center at the time of retirement in 1989, having worked there for 27 years, after she returned to nursing and they took her "on her terms."
She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of New Hartford and served as the Church's Clerk for many years.
From 1941-1961, Mrs. King was active in Girls Scouts, Cub Scouts and many community, school organizations and activities. She received the Thanks Badge in 1946 for her service in the Girl Scouts as a leader and for being active in various committees. Mrs. King was also a regular member of the New Hartford Adult Activity Senior Center, where she enjoyed her aerobic class and frequent lunches with friends.
Mrs. King was a inspiration to so many in the community and had such a very positive attitude, telling everyone to keep active, eat your blueberries and pineapple and live everyday to the fullest.
She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Patterson and her husband, Jon Patterson, of Williamsville, NY and Marjorie Anweiler and her husband, Terry, of New Hartford; three sons, Harold F. King and life partner, Michael Brown, of Benicia, CA, Dr. Richard King and his wife, Dr. Janet, of Bradenton, FL and Ronald King and his wife, Laura, of Poulsbo, WA; 12 grandchildren, Susan, Emily, Chip, Jeff, Cyndy, Rick, Laura, Sarah, Samara, Jesse, Gabe and Josh; and 19 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a niece, Karen Bachman and her husband, Phil, of Hebron, IN. She was predeceased by sisters, Grace Auld Bennett and Lucille Auld; and a brother, Richard Auld; and her dear friend, Ed Baker.
A family gathering will be held at the convenience of the family at the 4th Lake Camp where she enjoyed so many years with family.
Arrangements are with the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.

We too are saddened by Mom's passing. Our trip from FL to NY and back gave time to reflect on her life. She was an inspiration to so many people in nursing, church, and neighborhood.

Thank you for the kind words in these condolences and by phone and email. She will be greatly missed.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of your dear mother. I have so many fond memories of her when we were growing up. The garden where we use to pick lettuce for our lettuce and mayonnaise sandwiches. Of her nursing my chin when I fell on the patio. Please know that I sincerely send my condolences to all of you.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Rye was a great neighbor for all the kids growing up in our neighborhood. I remember the gardens and the large house she keep all these years. I can still hear her voice and her visiting with my mother.
Thank You

My condolences to the King family for the loss of your dear mother. Have so many fond memories of the years growing up next store to the Kings and the many conversations with Mrs.King, as recently as this July. My wish is that she is in a resting - peaceful place, but knowing her, she has already begun straightening up heaven. Godspeed Rye. - John Cunningham
