Shirley V. Bentz, 82, of Gloucester, VA, formerly of New Hartford, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, under the care of the Riverside Walter Reed Hospice. She was born June 19, 1929, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of the late Paul and Vivian Farley Gross, and was educated in Milwaukee schools. On January 3, 1948, in the Catholic Church of the Gesu, Milwaukee, WI, she married Curtis W. Bentz. He passed away September 13, 1973. At one time, Mrs. Bentz was employed with General Electric on both Broad Street and French Road in Utica and later worked at the information desk and as a TV hostess at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center in New Hartford. She also enjoyed working as an inspector for the Oneida County Board of Elections in New Hartford, prior to moving to Virginia. She was a former parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford. She is survived by four children, Linda and Kenneth Budlong of New Hartford, Louise Keech of Gloucester, VA, Mark and Amy Bentz of Waterville, and Lisa and Gerard Bartholomeo of Las Vegas, NV; eight grandchildren, Stephen and Jamie Budlong of Amsterdam, Jessica and Tim Coyer of Brewerton, Christopher Budlong of Utica, Danielle, Joseph and Benjamin Bartholomeo of Las Vegas, NV, and Maria and Maxwell Bentz of Waterville; and two great-grandchildren, William Budlong and Aubrey Coyer. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Bentz; two infant daughters, Laura and Katharine Bentz; a great-granddaughter, Gianna Budlong; and a sister, Beverly Gilman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.
