Dorothy Samuelson Obituary

Dorothy Wikman Samuelson, formerly of Williamsburg, VA, passed just before her 91st birthday on November 3, 2011. Born in CT and preceded in death by her husband, A. James Samuelson, Dot is survived by her son, Jack J. Samuelson and his wife, Ayn; daughter, Sue S. Midkiff; and grandchildren, Sean Samuelson, Ericka Midkiff, Chad Midkiff, Becky Midkiff and Alyssa Midkiff Camp. Dot was raised on a small farm by her Swedish parents using their native tongue as her first language. After high school in Southington, CT, Dot went to the Hartford School of Nursing, where she found her first love, the hospital. Shortly after receiving her RN, she joined the Navy to find and care for her second and most significant love, Jim Samuelson, whom she treated for a severe infection. She knew his Swedish farming background was a match, but he was also a tall, handsome engineer! What more could a girl ask for? Their life was without conflict or tragedy and filled with enjoying simple pleasures. Dot loved their retirement to Queens Lake in Williamsburg and the constant care of their daughter, Sue and caregiver, Sylvia Wiley and finally, the loving angels at Sunrise in Midlothian. A service will be held on Monday, November 7 at 3:00 PM at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Road, Williamsburg VA 23185, to which memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
