Frances Moore Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Frances Elizabeth Moore, a longtime Williamsburg resident, passed away at the age of 92 on May 17, 2017. Frances was born on September 2, 1924 at Ditchley in Ware Neck,Va. After graduation from Botetourt High School in Gloucester, her family moved to Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Doswell Moore and Minnie B. Nuttall; stepfather, Albert Nuttall; and sister, Marie Brewer. Fran loved her family and was always considered the "life of the party." She loved to laugh and loved to enjoy life to the fullest. She enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, dancing, music and cross word puzzles. She loved the water and her greatest passion was fishing. She spent many weekends fishing in the Chesapeake Bay aboard the "Miss Fran", the boat she shared with her longtime partner, Doug. Miss Fran, as she was also affectionately known at work, was employed by Williamsburg Merchants, Inc. for more than 50 years. She worked, as their manager, for 3 three generations of ownership at King's Treasure, formerly the College Shop, in Merchant's Square. Many who worked with her would say she was the College Shop. She never knew a stranger and met many people, including several celebrities, during her time at the "shop" as she called it. Fran was a loving and giving mother, Gabby and Nannie. Growing up on the water, she instilled in her family a love of the water and the beach. She spent many summer family vacations on the Outer Banks and was always traveling. While vacationing, you could often find her on the deck with a pair of binoculars watching the seagulls, pelicans and dolphins. She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Gail Turnage; and granddaughter, Shannon Turnage, both of Williamsburg; a grandson, Ryan Turnage and his wife, Sandy of Mechanicsville; great granddaughter, Alaina and great grandson, Jackson; and brother in law, Larry Brewer of Toano. Fran will be dearly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, online at cbf.org or by phone at 1-888-SAVEBAY, in her memory. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 26th at 2pm at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service.
