Phyllis Brashears Obituary

Phyllis Brashears, 84, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away peacefully in her home on August 31, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Major General (Retired) Bobby Brashears, daughter Laura and her husband Ron, son Robert and wife Jean, son Thomas and wife Jill, and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brashears was born May 27, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, to Louis and Carmela Casale. She graduated from Westchester University in 1961 with a Bachelor's degree in Education. In August of 1963 Mrs. Brashears moved to Germany to teach in the Department of Defense schools. After only a few days in Germany she met her future husband, US Army Captain Bobby Brashears. They were married on December 20, 1963, in Mainz, Germany. Their first child, Laura, was born September 8, 1964. Robert followed almost a year later, August 26, 1965. Thomas was born eight years later, August 31, 1973. After her first child was born, Mrs. Brashears stopped teaching to focus on being a homemaker and an officer's wife. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, and crafts. When her youngest son, Thomas, entered high school, Mrs. Brashears began a second career as a Certified Meeting Planner for the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). She retired from AABB in 1995 as the Director of Meeting Services. She and Bobby moved to Williamsburg, VA, in 2004. Mrs. Brashears will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery. A funeral service will be held at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Williamsburg, VA, date to be announced later. Condolences may be shared at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
