Richard Fisher Obituary

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Richard J. ("Rick") Fisher on December 29, 2021 in Williamsburg, VA. Rick was born on June 27, 1948 in Buffalo, New York to Richard and Mary Jeanne Fisher (née Keenan). He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Virginia ("Ginny") Fisher; son Seth Fisher (Kristen) of Anderson, SC, stepdaughter Allison Smith (Steve) of Norwich, CT and stepson Scott Anderson (Kelly Boden) of Portland, ME; his brother Robert Fisher (Deborah) of Williamsburg, VA, brother William Fisher (Patricia) of Greenville, SC and sister Cynthia Middleton (George) of Vancouver, WA. He is also survived by nieces Lindsay, Madison, Merrick, Kailee and Taylor, nephew Chris; seven grandchildren who he loved dearly: Madeleine, Eli, Henley, Owen, Sophia, Keagan, Henry; and three great-grandchildren: Areana, Stephen Jr., and Jediah Phillips. Rick was a marshmallow when it came to his dogs, Millie and Mia. He was known as "Dad" to them. Rick graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University in 1970. He earned an MBA from the University of Buffalo in 1973. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years retiring as a Major. He began his career working for The Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Buffalo before moving to Boston then Atlanta to work for Digital Equipment Corporation (later acquired by Compaq) and Raytheon Missile Systems. For the next 28 years, he worked for The Hewlett-Packard Company until his retirement in 2000. Rick and Ginny moved to Williamsburg in 2010 to be closer to Rick's brother, Rob. Rick was passionate about many things - one of his greatest pleasures was traveling all over the world with Ginny. Rick was Ginny's best friend, Rock of Gibraltar – always there for her. Together, they traveled a lot – loved Italy, family vacations at Hilton Head and Outer Banks. Rick was a lifelong runner, tennis player, golfer and cyclist. He enjoyed reading and provided all tech weenie service to his wife. Everyone who knew him knew that he also had a love for exotic cars. During his retirement, he found great joy in volunteering at SCORE to mentor local small business owners. He started the men's lunch group in New Town. Rick was a man of integrity and honor he will always be remembered for his gentle kindness and listening ear. He will be missed beyond words. A family service was held at Nelsen Funeral Home and online condolences may be shared at NelsenWilliamsburg.com.

Rick was my best friend for over 60 years. We grew up in the same town and attended the same high school. He was kind and always willing to help others. It has been over a year now since Rick passed away. It took me over a year to finally say I miss my friend.
