Robert S. Skelly Jr.

1932 - 2022

Captain Robert Stanley Skelly, Jr., MSC, USN (Ret.) of Williamsburg, passed away suddenly on 26 February, 2022, at age 89. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Brokaw Skelly, his daughter Kimberly Skelly Clark, his son-in-law P Kevin Clark, his sister Margaret Bakalar, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob Skelly was born on 8 December, 1932 in Thedford, Nebraska and grew up in central Florida and Pasadena, California. He enlisted in the Navy in 1952, and that led to a 34-year Navy career, during which he served 10 years in the enlisted ranks, then was commissioned as an Ensign, finally retiring as a Captain. After his retirement, Bob worked as a licensed home improvement contractor for 10 years. He retired completely when he and Cindy relocated to the relative peace and quiet of Williamsburg in 1997, where they built a house in Governor's Land. Bob was a longtime member of Kiwanis, volunteered for Colonial Williamsburg for over 20 years, and participated in many other organizations/activities in the area. Bob and Cindy moved into Patriots Colony in August 2019. A celebration of his life will be held on March 11, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, which will be available for livestreaming on Nelsen's website.
