Stephanie,
Ben & Steve III

I can't imagine your day-to-day right now as you've transitioned through this past week.
I just hope your heartaches will be replaced by joyful, precious memories as soon as possible.

It's been 9 years since I met the amazing man you called husband and father, and I'm honored that I've been able to call him a colleague, mentor, and friend through these years.

As others have said, his laugh was so real, his whit so fun. But his conscience, his compassion, his truth, his strength and his ability to bring those characteristics into any of our working situations make him one of the most beautifully genuine men I've met.

Stephanie, to watch you and Steve working together around a conference table, or see you sharing laughter together with friends has been so inspiring. Your interactions sparkle with the bonds of friendship and love that we all envision as the epitome of a marriage.
Bonds that can't be broken.

He was taken too soon, he is already missed so very much, but Steve lives on in all three of you and I know your happy memories will replace the sadness as each day passes.

My love to you all.

We knew you in 1986-90 and you threw us a going away party. I got to work with Steve through my job at Colonial Mental Health and we became friends. So many years later, I can still hear his great laugh and his quick wit. What a compassionate, lovely man and one reason why leaving Williamsburg was so hard for me. Our love to you all--John Schroll

Stephanie, Ben, and Stevie,
Quite simply, Steve was a wonderful human being. His kindness, sense of humor, passion for fly fishing, and the caring he brought to the children and families he served exemplified who Steve was. The love Steve reserved for his family was deep and unending. Counting Steve as a friend was a gift in my life. He will be missed. Love to all of you at this difficult time.

Stephanie,

My heartfelt sympathies go out to you and your family. Steve was a pleasure with whom to work. He was a good man as well; I always laughed at our musings as we spoke about the events of the day. This school division was fortunate to have had him.
May his soul rest in peace and may you take comfort in knowing that he was a positive influence in the lives of many, many children.

Respectfully,

Chuck Dofflemeyer
