Sue H. Griggs

With great sadness we announce, Sue H. Griggs, 92, quietly passed away on March 2, 2022, surrounded by her family. Born in Gates County, North Carolina, she was a resident of Williamsburg since 1959. Sallie Sue was a longtime member of Williamsburg Baptist Church where she actively engaged with her church and its community. Her deep faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was also a member of the Junior Women's Club and the Kingsmill Choral group. Sallie Sue was an avid gardener and loved having her hands in the dirt as she welcomed each season, especially the new beginnings of spring. As a self-taught cook, she leaves behind a legacy of hallmark dishes. Always dressed to the nines, Sallie Sue enjoyed bright, warm colors which matched her lovely personality and demeanor. She is survived by her sons L. Mark Griggs (Cheryl), Steve A. Griggs (Andree), Neil D. Griggs, and her daughter, Tricia L. Shallenberger (Jeff). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Carrie, Carter, and Hunter Griggs; Austin and Marselina Griggs; and Rebecca, Jack, Sarah and Katherine Shallenberger; as well as a great-granddaughter Poppy Sue Hershoff. A celebration of Sallie Sue's life will be held Monday, March 21 at 3:00 PM at Williamsburg Baptist Church, followed by a reception at Cochon on 2nd, 311-106 Second Street, Williamsburg, Virginia. The family extends its gratitude to the staff of Williamsburg Hospice House and everyone who provided care and kindness to our mother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Williamsburg Hospice House and Support Care or to a charity of their choice.
