Virginia Solan Obituary

Virginia Davis Marvin Solan died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012. She was born on Dec. 6, 1916, at the old Davis Home place in Barhamsville, to the late Lloyd Calvin and Mary Slater Davis, seventh of 14 children.
She graduated from New Kent High School in 1935. She was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. She attended St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg. She retired from service with Colonial Williamsburg as a supervisor.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Reinold T. Marvin; four sisters, Louise D. Walker, Eva D. Green, Julia D. Smith and Frances D. Forbes; and five brothers, Robert, Clyde, William, Whitfield and Lloyd Davis.
Left to cherish fond memories are her husband, Michael H. Solan; her daughter, Mary Anna Marvin and her husband, W.S Hodges Jr., of Newport News; her son, Thomas C. Marvin and his wife, Janie; three stepchildren, Kathleen S. Ruth and her husband, Tom, Maryanne Solan and her husband, Robert F. London, and Michael T. Solan; three grandsons; two granddaughters; six great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; two step-grandsons; seven step-grandchildren; and three great-step-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Lillian D. Blondek and Gertrude D. Lindsay; her brothers, Preston R. Davis and C. Warren Davis.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. with a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 20051 Tabernacle Rd., Barhamsville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 20051 Tabernacle Rd., Barhamsville VA 23011.

I cannot tell you how sad we are about Aunt Virginia. We were so lucky (and so was he) when my Uncle Mike married her. She was one of our very favorite people--so gracious when we visited, fun to be around, and she had such a beautiful spirit. She was an inspiration to us all.
