Blake Broyles Obituary

Harlingen - Blake Allen Broyles, 63, of Harlingen, Texas, passed away on September 21, 2025. He was born on March 13, 1962, in Harlingen, where he spent his life surrounded by family, friends, faith, and the music he loved.

At the center of Blake's life was his faith. A devout believer and member of First Methodist Church Harlingen, he was deeply rooted in his Christian Walk and well-versed in scripture. His knowledge of the Bible, his devotion to Christ, and his steady witness shaped not only his own journey but also the lives of those around him. Blake also joyfully served in the church praise band, where he shared his guitar talent as an offering of worship and encouragement to others.

Blake was an extraordinary guitarist whose passion and gift shone through every note he played. While he could play bass and drums, the guitar was his true voice, and he was known for bringing it to life in a way that touched the hearts of those who listened. In high school, he co-founded the rock band Emerald Steel, pouring his creativity and energy into unforgettable performances. One of their greatest moments came during a talent show, when the group dressed in handmade costumes as the legendary band KISS and captured first place - a victory that showcased both Blake's musical talent and his flair for showmanship.

A proud 1980 graduate of Harlingen High School, Blake went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from North Texas State University and a Master of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents George and Rachel Pletcher of Harlingen, and Vernon and Eura Broyles of Harlingen. He is survived by his parents, Sidney and Linda Broyles of Harlingen; his sister, Leslie Kilgore (Mike) of Harlingen; nieces Ashley Zurek (Zach) of San Antonio and Chelsea McLaughlin (Jacob) of New Braunfels; nephew Ryan Kilgore of Austin; grand-nieces Zoe and Avery Zurek; and grand-nephew Sage.

Blake will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his remarkable guitar talent, and the joy and love he shared with his family and friends. His kindness was a gift to all who knew him. His legacy of devotion and music will live on in the hearts of many.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Methodist Church Harlingen, 321 E. Harrison St., Harlingen, TX 78550, on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. A reception and visitation will follow in the Pletcher Parlor.

The family suggests memorial donations to First Methodist Church Harlingen or the Boys and Girls Club of Harlingen.
