Erasmo Valdez Obituary
WESLACO/
MERCEDES, TX.-
Erasmo Valdez, 72, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 22, 2013 at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston. Erasmo was a lifelong resident of Weslaco, TX where he was an avid lifelong farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dionicio and Rafaela (Gomez) Valdez; 6 brothers; 4 sisters; and his beloved mother-in-law, Gorgonia Wallach.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Valdez; his children, Dionicio ``Donnie' (Olga) Valdez, II, Melissa (Isidoro) Nieto, Veronica Cox (Jaime Dones) and Andrea Valdez; his grandchildren, Erasmo Valdez, II, Laura Valdez, Carlos Valdez, Rodrigo Valdez, Teagan Valdez, Zachary Nieto, Bryant Nieto, Christopher Nieto, Alan Cox; his sisters, Francisca Rendon, Juanita Leal, Maria Delia Ramirez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today, Friday, April 26, 2013 from 3pm to 9pm, with a rosary at 7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Special thanks to Dr. Brian O'Donnell, Dr. Eduardo Flores and all the nurses and staff who cared for Erasmo at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Mr. Valdez was a farmer but at a heart also a champion for equal rights for all. I regret not having spent more time with him to gain more of his wisdom. Donnie's strength and advocacy and smarts come straight from this great man that we have lost.
