Irma Solis Obituary

Irma Solis, 73, of Sebastian, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025, surrounded by her husband and son.

Born on September 16, 1952, Irma was the oldest of nine siblings (Teresa Ochoa?, Diego Garza, Victor Garza, Abraham Garza, Romulo Garza, Carmen Floriano, Mark Garza and Marisa Garza) - a role she embraced with pride, love, and a sense of responsibility that shaped the woman she became. After graduating from Port Isabel High School in 1971 and the University of Texas at Brownsville in 1975, Irma followed her calling into the world of teaching.

For 35 years, Irma poured her heart into her kindergarten classroom. She had a gift for making every child feel safe, seen, and treasured. Her gentle voice, warm smile, and endless patience touched the lives of generations. Many of her former students would later share that their love of learning and their first memories of being truly encouraged began in Mrs. Solis' classroom.

It was at Weslaco ISD in 1975 that Irma met the love of her life, Joe Solis. Their bond was immediate and enduring, and together they built a marriage that lasted 49 beautiful years. Their love story lives on in their children, Brandon and Charley Solis, their loving niece Debbie (Davila) Juarez, and in the two grandchildren who brought Irma immeasurable joy, Colt and Adele Marie Solis. To them, she was not just a grandmother, but a source of comfort and unconditional love. Irma was the quiet heartbeat of our family - steady, generous, and endlessly kind.

Irma was preceded in death by her son, Justin Keith Solis, sister Teresa Ochoa, and her parents, Juan and Carmen Garza. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with them.

Irma was a voracious reader with a deep love for books and the quiet magic of libraries. She found solace and inspiration in their shelves, and she believed deeply in the power of stories. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Harlingen Public Library in her honor, a place that reflects her lifelong passion for learning and imagination. https://harlingentx.gov/departments/library/donate_to_the_library.php

You may sign the online guestbook, light a remembrance candle, or send words of comfort for the family at www.thomaegarza.com. Family will receive visitors on Friday, November 28, from 1pm - 2pm. Memorial service will be at 2pm at the Thomae-Garza Funeral Home Chapel, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito, Texas, 956-399-1331. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Irma's legacy is love - love she gave freely, generously, and without hesitation. Though we will miss her presence beyond measure, her kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit will guide us always.
