James Walker Obituary

James Harold
(Jim) Walker
HARLINGEN,TX.-
On Monday, June 13, 2011, James Harold (Jim) Walker passed away. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, October 1, 1927, to James Harold Walker Sr. and Susie Lovina Parks. They and his only sibling, Germaine Walker Reimann, her husband, Stan Reimann, eldest daughter, Susie Walker Elliff Quick, and best friend from high school days, Kenny Jones, predeceased Jim.
He is greatly missed by the following: wife, Diana Walker, of Harlingen, daughter, Kathy Mason (Dan), of Fort Worth, Texas, son, Mike Walker (Julie), of McAllen, Texas, son-in-law, David Quick, of Harlingen, former son-in-law, Jim Elliff (Denise) of Mission, stepdaughters, Tracy and Yvette Adair of Boerne, Texas, and stepson, Dan Adair, of Houston, Texas, grandchildren, Greg and Chris Elliff, Meghan (Joey) Wilson, Morgan McMillan and Molly Mahan, Nikki Walker, Brittany (Irvin) Ramirez, Cassidy Deike, Avery Kay, and Kayla Adair, great-grandchildren Sydney Elliff, Derris Mahan, Lola Anderson, Malerie Wilson, Joshua Marquez, and Aleah Ramirez, nephew, Dennis Reimann, Marble Falls, Texas, grandnephew, John (Tracy) Reimann and twin great grandnieces, Molly and Olivia, and one brother-in-law, Herb Moss, of Laguna Vista.
Jim graduated from Belvidere High School, Belvidere, Illinois, in 1945, and proudly served in the U.S. Army during 1946-1947. Jim and his wife, Pat Dobler Walker Lutz relocated to the Rio Grande Valley in 1949 to La Feria. They later moved to Rio Hondo where, following in his father's footsteps as a lumberman and home-builder, he ran Walker Lumber Company for 15 years and to South Padre Island where he ran Bayside Lumber Company in Laguna Heights for three years.
He is remembered lovingly as a gentleman of integrity, loyalty, and compassion. Anyone doing business with Jim Walker knew that his word was his bond. He held first place as our family advisor and storyteller. His family and friends were his treasures. He had high regard for teachers especially after serving on the school board in his Rio Hondo days and as a HOSTS volunteer at Wilson School. He constantly supported his wife in her role as a teacher. Jim also served on the City Council in Rio Hondo. An avid sportsman, he had a passion for hunting for and finding Indian artifacts throughout south Texas. Our deck was a favorite spot from which he viewed the wildlife in his own backyard.
Special thanks go to Dr. Bruce Leibert, Odyssey Hospice, and loving caregivers, Paul Navarrette and Janie Ruiz.
Psalms 15:1-2 ``O Lord, who may abide in Thy tent? He who walks with integrity and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart.'
Proverbs 10:9a ``He who walks in integrity walks securely.'

Mrs. Walker, It is not everyday that one comes across a person with such a tender, and loving heart as Mr. Walker's. Just as my grandson was in your prayers in his time of need, so too will you be in ours. I was truly blessed the day you and he walked into my office, but I'm sure Our Lord is even happier now that Mr. Walker is home. May God comfort you and give you his peace....Ruth Ayala
