Juanita Reyes Obituary

Mercedes - Juanita Q. Reyes

June 24, 1941 - November 3, 2025

Juanita Q. Reyes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Juanita was born on June 24, 1941, in Mercedes, Texas, to Felix and Hilaria Quintanilla, and was lovingly raised by Santiago and Isabel Quintanilla. From an early age, her kind and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. She carried a deep and unwavering faith that guided her through life's joys and challenges, serving as a source of strength and comfort to those around her.

Juanita was the true backbone of her family - a pillar of love, faith, and resilience. She created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Her nurturing presence and selfless heart will forever be cherished by all who were blessed to know her.

She also had a joyful and spirited side - a proud fan of the Houston Astros, cheering for her team through every season.

Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Hilaria Quintanilla; her loving guardians, Santiago and Isabel Quintanilla; her sisters, Maclovia Reyna, Catarina Garcia, Monica Howell, and Teresa Caballero; and her brothers, Hilario Quintanilla, Santiago Quintanilla, and Felix Quintanilla.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Abelardo Reyes Sr.; her sons, Jimmy (Carmen) Reyes and Abel Jr. (Leti) Reyes; her daughters, Becky (Bobby) Pemelton and Yvette (Larry Castro) Reyes; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Juanita deeply cherished her grandchildren - Carlos Reyes, Michelle Gandara, Erica Reyes, Mary Reyes, Allison Pemelton, Ashley Pemelton, Michael Reyes, and Alyssa Cano - and was extremely proud of each of them. Coming from humble beginnings, she instilled in them the value of education, perseverance, and faith. Her legacy lives on through their accomplishments and the love she poured into each of their lives.

She is also survived by her sisters, Maria Elena Quintanilla, Alma Quintanilla, and Imelda Quintanilla; her brother, Romel Quintanilla; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Garcia Trevino Funeral Home in Mercedes, Texas.

A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, Texas, with burial to follow at Mercedes Memorial Restlawn Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all family and friends for their loving support, donations, and prayers during the last few months of Juanita's life. They would also like to recognize and thank the numerous doctors and nurses who cared for her with love and compassion at Baylor St. Luke's Heart Hospital in Houston, Texas, and PAM Specialty Care Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Juanita's legacy of faith, love, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Though she has gone home to the Lord, her light will never fade.
