Maria Barrera Obituary

Austin, TX - Maria Del Socorro Colin Barrera, age 96, a 17 year resident of Austin and formerly of Harlingen, passed away February 3, 2018.

She was a member of St. Albert The Great Catholic Church in Austin and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Harlingen.

Mrs. Barrera is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Enrique D. Barrera, and son, Frank Barrera, of McAllen, Texas.

She is survived by her ten children, daughter Alma D. Garza and the late Enrique F. Garza of Austin; son, Enrique L. Barrera of Austin; daughter, Angelita N. Cantu of Austin; son, David and Maria Barrera of Austin; son, Juan and Yolanda Barrera of Harlingen; son, Jaime and Betty Barrera of Victoria; daughter, Norma L. and Domingo Soto of Austin; daughter-in-law, Ana M. Barrera of McAllen; daughter, Gilma A. and Tim Durham of Corinth; daughter, Yvonne and Arturo Ayala of Harlingen; son, Richard John and Sandra Barrera of Austin; 32 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

The visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. The funeral mass will begin at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018 at St. Albert The Great Catholic Church in Austin, Texas followed by a committal service at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons.

She has been lifted to be in the Glory of God and with her beloved Husband Enrique, and with her Son Frank. May God bless her family and friends. I truly miss all three of them and have great memories of their life on Earth. My parents were dear friends of the Mrs and Mr Barrera. Shall the new eternity start anew.
