Marvin Hendrix Obituary

Harlingen, TX. - Marvin L. Hendrix, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday evening July 10, 2021 with his loving wife, Rachel, by his side. Marvin was born December 27, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Hurshel V. and Esther Erdmann Hendrix. He grew up on his family farm in Bartlesville, OK with siblings, Sonya and H.L. Though afflicted with polio as a young boy, Marvin defied all odds. He was a Boy Scout, member of his Highschool band, Civil Air Patrol officer, Bethany Nazarene College Graduate, a Pilot and ultimately, a United States Marine.

Marvin went on to have a successful career in the insurance industry, retiring from Crawford & Company in 1995. With Marvin's independent spirit and intelligence, He went on to master technology, which he brought to the City of Harlingen as their risk manager and retiring after 10 years of service. Not one for sitting idle, in 2006 Marvin lent his expertise to the City of Palm Valley during his tenure as City Councilman. Marvin was very proud be to a member of First Church of the Nazarene, served on the church board and held the position of church Treasurer.

Marvin always greeted you with a warm smile, a good joke and a fist bump. In his free time, you could find Marvin in the garage tinkering on his 1952 Chevy Truck (La Movida), that was handed down from his father.

If you look up the definition of an OU Sooners fan in the dictionary, we are sure you will find a picture of Marvin. BOOMER SOONER! He also loved taking care of his beautiful home and daily trips to Dairy Queen for a medium dipped cone.

Married to the love of his life, Rachel (Raquel) Garcia Hendrix for over 24 years, his final days were spent peacefully, surrounded by Rachel and their pups, Boomer and Pepita. His last word to Rachel were, "I love you", which he expressed daily.

Marvin is survived by his wife Rachel, daughters, Katie Ruth Dillard (Roger), Rachel Garcia Butler and Wendy Garcia Scott (Ryan), Brother, H.L. Hendrix (Leta), and sister, Sonia Mallow (Ron). Grandchildren- Avery, Jason, Henry, Elisabeth Andrew and Kennedy, Grand Fur-babies- Brutus, Luna and PapiChulo. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Lifelong best friend - Jerry Forte of Colorado.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 17 at 1PM at First Church of the Nazarene, 2001 N. 7th, Harlingen, TX. Family Dinner will be held afterward in the fellowship hall. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Harlingen Humane Society or the First Church of the Nazarene in Marvin's name.
