LOMETA JUDKINS Obituary
LOMETA JUDKINS
Lometa Evelyn Judkins, age 92, of Lewisville, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at her home in the presence of her loving family.
She was born October 7, 1930, in Van Alstyne, Texas to John William Gleaves and Minnie Lee Dixon Gleaves. Lometa graduated from Van Alstyne High School in May of 1948 and married Ewell "Billy" Judkins on June 4, 1948, also in Van Alstyne. They were married for a long and very happy 70 years. She worked for GTE for a time in Sherman, Texas and held other jobs until they welcomed a daughter into their lives in 1953, and a son in 1955. Lometa became a full-time housewife and mother at that time. She maintained her household through Billy's death in 2018 until her health deteriorated earlier this year. She was a member of Northview Baptist Church in Lewisville for a number of years.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Judkins Whitmore, son, Kenneth Dale Judkins and his wife Barbara Judkins; five grandchildren and their spouses and significant others, Angela Connolly (Flip), Bradley Whitmore (Bonnie), Natalie Muncy (Grant Conrad), Arlo Judkins, and Eleanor Judkins (Dylan Gresham); ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and brother Billy Jack Gleaves and his wife Margie. Lometa was preceded in death by her husband Billy, her parents, and sisters Nelda Roach and Lavois DeLay, and one grandchild, Wesley Whitmore. In addition to family, she left behind many dear friends and extended family members of all ages.
Lometa cut a wide swath through the lives of everyone who knew her. She was the most loving wife, mother, and ultimate "Meme" any husband, child, or grandchild could ever ask for. She loved all her family and always accepted in-laws and other newly acquired family members as her own. Her generosity and love knew no bounds. She and Billy loved to travel and camp with friends and relatives from South Texas to Colorado. It was well-known among family members that her humor became more acute the older she became.
Billy and Lometa were faithful members of the Lewisville Saddle Club for many years and held offices in the club including President (Billy) and Secretary (Lometa). The club was a source of both hard work and joy for her.
Lometa's celebration of life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2023, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 am prior to the service.
