Aage Hornsleth Obituary

Aage "Iggy" Hornsleth peacefully passed away April 25, 2006, holding the hand of Marie, his beloved wife of 61 years.

Aage was born of Danish parents on Oct. 13, 1919, in Kingston, Jamaica, where his father, Christian, worked in developing the port of St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies, now the U.S. Virgin Islands, Iggy's parents emigrated from Denmark to the United States in 1922 and settled in Hashbrouck Heights, N.J., where Iggy spent his youth, graduating from Hashbrouck Heights High School in 1937.

He then attended the University of Virginia (UVA) and graduated in 1942 with a bachelor of science degree in commerce. He was the manager of the UVA baseball team and a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He worked for Standard Oil in New York before moving in 1943 to Albuquerque, N.M., where he met the love of his life, Marie Frances O'Hearn. They married on July 14, 1945, and had five children. They moved in 1955 to Southern California, where he worked for Hughes Aircraft Co. for 30 years. After retiring from Hughes, he and Marie moved to the Ocean Hills Country Club in Oceanside, where they lived for 19 years before moving to Camarillo.

Aage's passions in life included the ocean, Porsches, the stock market, sports, history, science fiction, horse racing, bridge and his wife's cooking, especially her desserts, which he called "di-zerts." In addition to Marie, Aage leaves behind his sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Elane, and Dane and Monica; daughters and son-in-law, Sue and Mike, Lynn, and Donna and David; grandchildren, Mike, Tanya and her husband, Jim, Matt, Jessica, Brie, Nick, Marissa, Paige and Nathaniel; and great-grandchildren, Taryn and Slater.

The family will miss your great sense of humor, your funny songs, your political analysis and your constant reminders to check the oil in our cars. Skoal!

Services will be private with arrangements coordinated by the Neptune Society.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Camarillo Healthcare Center for their loving care in the last two years of Aage's life.

As former neighbors of Chris and Elaine, I can guess just what kind of person Aage was. We enjoyed Chris' Porsche and Elaine's sparkling presence.

Our best wishes for the Hornsleth family,

Jay and Barbara Roske

/My heartfelt sympathy to my Aunt Marie and all my cousins in California. I truly wish there had been more times during our youth, that we were "able" to visit with each other more often than we were. My few memories are very happy and fun...thanks to all of you. Great love,(Little cousin Honey) Cleary of Weston, CT and Bonita Springs, FL

We go back a long ways--the New Years Eve get together--we have great memories. I especially had fun with Iggie talking about our Danish heritage. Blessings and love to the family. Ruth
