Alexander "Alex" Amundsen was born May 17, 1921, and passed away Aug. 26, 2008.
He was born in Redding, Pa. Shortly after, he moved with his family to Los Angeles. He was a 50-year resident of Ojai, a proud veteran of World War II, United States Marine Corps, and proud of his accomplished 60 years with Sunkist Builders, during which he managed construction all over Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, including several residential complexes in Ojai.
Alex is survived by his wife, Ramona Amundsen of Ojai; daughter, Penny Morningstar (husband Ron) of Redondo Beach, Calif.; son, Jack Amundsen of Redondo Beach, Calif.; daughter, Terry Barnes of Ojai; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those close to Alex knew he was a peacemaker, confidante and generous provider. He was kind-hearted, honest and giving. Though many people never saw this side of him, he was funny and knew just what to say when you were down or when you were happy. He lived a long, fulfilled life, working hard for all who were close to him. He leaves a legacy that will be shared with many generations, having been a perfect example of what life is all about … travel, do what you love, what makes you happy, but above all, stay close to family. That is what mattered most to him. Alex will truly be missed and will always have a special place in our hearts.
Alex is preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Kathleen; and daughter, Faye Booth.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo.
Assisting with the arrangements is Conejo Mountain Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, CA 93012; 805-482-1959.
