Carnis W. Williams, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 28, 2009 at his home in Ventura.
Carnis was born June 4, 1912 to John and Lela Williams at the Edwards Ranch in Santa Paula, California. Along with his brother Carl he grew up and worked there. He attended West Saticoy Elementary School and graduated from Santa Paula High School. In 1933 he married his high school sweetheart Agnes Helfert.
In 1940 their son Gerald Williams was born and later that year he left the Edwards ranch and went to work for the O.P. Cook Ranch. He continued there until 1952 when he took a position with the Ventura County Schools Office. He worked in the Audio Visual Division as a supervisor and retired in 1952 at the age of 70. He was very proud to be a 55 year member of the Independent Order of Foresters.
He is survived by his brother Carl R. Williams of Santa Paula, his son Gerald W. Williams of Ventura, and his niece Carlyne Graves of Las Vegas, Nevada. He also leaves other relatives who live out of the area.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 5th, 1:00 p.m., at Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Rd., Santa Paula, CA., with the Reverend John Martin from Church of the Foothills, Ventura officiating. We would like to thank his caretaker Berlinda McBee for all her loving care. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.

I sure will miss you Carnis. Such a wonderful and thoughtful soul. I will always cherish the memories of our chats and lunches in Sherman Oaks, CA. God is right there with you now. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I could have made it to the service. God bless you!

My deepest sympathy to the entire family. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to attend the services for Carnis. I worked with him at the Ventura County Schools Office from 1963 until his retirement in 1982. I remember he was a very gentle and kind man and always very conscientious.
I hope he was able to enjoy his many years of retirement. I'll pray that God Blesses each of you with happy memories of Carnis.

Carnis was my supervisor in the early 70s while employed at the County Audio Visual Department. Many remember him as one who would hold us accountable without being over bearing. I also remember him as a man with a focus on priorities, and always exhibiting a kind heart.
