Catherine Rose Mary Zack was born to Frank and Helen Zack on Jan. 3, 1938, in Painesville Ohio. She passed away peacefully on Jan. 31, 2009, in Community Memorial Hospital, Ventura.
Cathy attended St. Mary’s Elementary School in Painesville, and Andrew’s School in Willoughby, Ohio, majoring in clothing design. In 1957, she began employment with Ohio Bell, transferring to Pacific Bell in Ventura in 1962, where she continued until her retirement in 1992 as radio operations associate. During her tenure with the company, Cathy received many accolades from her supervisors for her efficient administrative performance.
A long-time member and officer of the Telephone Pioneers, Cathy helped organize many charitable activities, including “beep ball” games for blind children, and creating teddy bears for children in traumatic situations.
Cathy was a talented photographer and artist, and some of her paintings were displayed in art galleries and shows around California. Also, for many years, Cathy raised pedigreed miniature poodles, entering and receiving awards at local shows. Her joys included gardening, sewing, hiking, camping, bird watching and trips to Las Vegas with her Pioneer friends.
A loving daughter who helped provide care for her parents in their final years, Cathy was also a generous and devoted aunt and sister. She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Rice of Ojai, Theresa Godwin of Ventura, Mary Ellen (Kitty) Lucero of West Hills, and Esther Zack of Westlake Village; nieces and nephews, Laura Pullin, Dena Rice, David Rice, Tani Fisher, Liat Pardini, Dana Lucero and Andrew Lucero; grandnieces and grandnephews, Carly and Sidney Pulling and Derrick and Nicholas Fisher.
Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Reardon Mortuary, 757 E. Main St., Ventura 93001; 805-642-8623. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon Saturday, Feb. 7, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 3175 Telegraph Road, Ventura 93003. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
Cathy was entrusted to the care of the award-winning and family-owned Joseph Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura; 643-8623.
