Charlotte Lewin Obituary

Charlotte (Char) Lewin (nee Wenig), beloved wife of 50 years to Edward (z'l); mother to Steven (Joan Cahn) Lewin and Karen (Lawrence) Cardozo; grandmother of Benjamin (Hadas) Cardozo, Shoshana (Adam) Fischer, Daniel (Katherine) Cardozo and Samantha Lewin; great-grandmother to Ellie Cardozo and Danielle Fischer; sister to Lee (Morton) Sternberg; Aunt and friend to many;"Gramma Char" to all; passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the age of 86.

Char grew up in Chicago where she met and married Edward, raised their children and were active in BJBE synagogue. They moved to Southern California in 1977. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign and earned her Masters at Northeastern Illinois University. Char taught for over 20 years at Skiles Jr. High School in Evanston, IL and Belmont High School in Los Angeles. She served as President of the Temple Adat Elohim Sisterhood, was honored as "Woman of the Year", and ran the Synagogue gift shop. Mrs. Lewin was also a volunteer docent and editor of the Delineator at the Stagecoach Inn and Museum.

Char loved being with family, listening to music (she was subscriber to the New West Symphony) and traveling, as well as reading, movies and making her specialty - brisket. She enjoyed playing mahjong and teaching others to play - and was the ultimate "Chocoholic".

Dear Steve and Karen and all the Lewins and Cardozos,

I am so happy that I was able to know your Mom. She was an incredibly special woman. She opened her arms to me and my sons and never let go. She was wonderful!!!
My love to you all.
Joan
