Cody Munson Obituary

Cody Munson, 25, passed away suddenly on Aug. 15, 2008, in Hollywood, Calif.

Though he had a short life, he lived it to the fullest. Brilliant soccer player, computer pro, accomplished actor, and world traveler were just a few of his accomplishments.

Cody was a 2005 graduate cum laude of the University of California Irvine. He spent his junior year in Germany in the University of California Study Abroad program. He became fluent in German because all but one of his classes were in German. When his parents visited at Easter, we were amazed at how easily he conversed with the locals in German.

While he was visiting friends in Madrid, Spain, the trains were bombed. We heard this on the morning news and rushed to our computer. With the time difference, Cody had already e-mailed us that he was OK. In fact, he had planned to take a midday train on one of the lines that had been bombed earlier. With most transportation shut down, Cody somehow caught a plane out of Barcelona to London, and it was on with his grand tour. The young and adventurous Cody would not be denied.

Cody loved animals and people and life in general. He was funny and intelligent. His personality made him countless friends. He thrived on the electricity of Hollywood with his buddies.

Cody will be forever missed by his parents, Bob and Mary; his sisters, Joy and Jennifer; and his longtime girlfriend, Crystal Kao.Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 22, with funeral and reception to follow at noon and 1 p.m. at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Camarillo.

I was a student at UC Irvine with Cody. He was one of the first guys I ever met who was actually respectful and treated me like a complete equal. I was really saddened to hear of his passing. Cody was a really special person and I fondly remember our time together at Irvine. I just wanted to leave condolences to the family and share my memory of him.

Words are just inadequate to express the sadness that we feel in hearing this news of Cody's death. The sadness, however, can and must be tempered by the memories of the great joy with which Cody lived his life and the joy that he brought to his family and friends. At this difficult time, our hearts and our prayers go out to our dear friends, Bob and Mary, and to Joy, Jennifer, and Crystal.

Over the years Cody has basically become part of my family. Crystal is one of my best friends and she has always been there for me. I always thought one day there would be little codys and crystals running around for me to babysit. This is a terrible loss and I feel it all the way on the other side of the country. My sympathy goes out to his entire family and all his friends, but most of all to crystal, my beautiful talented elegant cousin, who is in pieces over the loss of the love of her life. god bless cody and may he rest in peace. you will always be in my heart funson.

Cody was one of the most ambitious people I have ever known. There was never any doubt that he would always succeed in what he put his mind to. He was brilliant and thoughtful and I am so sad today. My thoughts are with his family.

To Jen, Joy, Bob, Mary & Crystal,
I am heartbroken for your loss. I barely knew Cody and yet I was a fan for life. Jen and I would drive down from college to see him act in his high school plays -- he totally stole the show, of course. When he lived in Germany, I requested (via his sis) that he leave a message on my voice mail in German -- he delivered and it was flawless. I sent him some ridiculously elaborate homemade present to Germany because he was the kind of awesome person that inspired those gestures. My thoughts are with you all during this sad time.

Dearest Bob, Mary, Joy, Jennifer and Crystal -Rest assured that Cody will always look out for you and your family. Know that he is always near and is aware of how much you miss him. It doesn't ease the pain, but Cody's love for you will always continue just as yours will for Cody. We all love you.

Although I did not Cody that well as he got older I played soccer with his two sisters Joy and Jennifer when we were younger. I am deeply sorry for your families loss. Bob and Mary you are two of the nicest people I know and raised a great family. Again I am sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you all at this time.

Munson Family, Words can't express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. I was lucky enough to have spent some time with Cody recently with my brother James. I remember him as such a cute, funny, intelligent kid and was happy to hear of all his accomplishments and what a great man he'd become. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Cody was an awesome friend. To his family who is mourning the loss of a wonderful person, I give my deepest condolences. To his friends—both those I know and don’t—I’m sorry you had to lose such a one-of-a-kind and genuine friend. His passing is an unspeakable tragedy, but I’ll always cherish the moments, memories and stories I shared with him. Thanks for being there, Cody. I’ll miss you.
