David Hodgson Obituary

David Lowell "Dave" Hodgson of Ventura passed away Jan. 5, 2007, at home.

Dave was born May 20, 1930, in Flushing, N.Y. He graduated from Florida State University with a degree in geology in 1957 and pursued a career in geology in Alabama, Kentucky and California. In 1986 he retired from his then current position as an energy resources geologist with Southern California Edison.

After retirement, he pursued his passion, sailing. He spent many happy days sailing his 39-foot sloop, the Adventuress, to the Channel Islands in the company of family and friends. He also helped launch a consulting firm, National Environmental, in which he took an active role as a registered geologist.

Capt. Dave is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patt Hodgson; son, David Hodgson of Poway; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Hodgson Kobe and Nick Kobe of Simi Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Hodgson of Portland, Ore.; stepchildren, Rick Kaiser and his wife, Michele of Madison, Ala., and Diana Altieri and her husband, Chris of Lancaster; grandchildren, Katie, Lillian, Laura, Emily, JJ, Melissa, Jaime, Jessica, Brandon, Aaron, Patrick and Collin. Capt. Dave will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in the chapel of Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, with Pastor Charles Cutney of the First Southern Baptist Church of North Hollywood officiating. Interment of the urn will follow in the park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the regional chapter of the American Heart Association, 333 N. Lantana St., Suite 265, Camarillo, CA 93010.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
