David J. Lambiotte, 74, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at his home in Camarillo.
David was a loving and generous husband and father who always did everything he could to ensure the well-being of his children.
David was born March 23, 1934, to Ethel and Oscar Lambiotte in Fairmont, W. Va. After graduation from Fairmont Senior High School at barely 16 years old, he attended Farimont State College for two years. He left there to work as a draftsman in San Rafael, Calif., for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. Upon returning to Fairmont, W. Va., he attended West Virginia University before being drafted into the U.S. Army. After basic training and Army construction drafting school, David was assigned to an Engineering Construction Group in Korea for 16 months.
After being discharged from the Army, David worked for two years as a detail draftsman before re-entering West Virginia University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He then worked as an engineer for an engineering consulting firm in Clarksburg, W. Va., for 21 months before returning to West Virginia University to complete a Master of Science degree in soils and pavements in 1963.
David then went to work for the Bureau of Public Roads in McLean, Va., until 1965 at which time he accepted a position as a research engineer for the Naval Civil Engineering Lab in Port Hueneme, Calif., where he worked until he retired in 1994. In 1987 he was awarded a Commendation for Meritorious Civilian Service by the U.S. Marine Corps for superior professional achievement while managing the Amphibious and Advance Base Program at NCEL.
Mr. Lambiotte was a member of Tau Beta Iota, social fraternity; Chi Epsilon, civil engineering honorary fraternity; and Tau Beta Pi, engineering honorary fraternity.
David was an accomplished singer and actor and performed both musical and non-musical roles for Cabrillo Music Theater, Camarillo Community Theater and other local groups.
David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rosetta Lambiotte of Camarillo, Calif.; brothers Donald Lambiotte of Florida and William Lambiotte of Ohio; daughters Anne Lambiotte and K.K. Lambiotte and son Robin Lambiotte all of Ventura; daughter Dominique Hodgin of Castle Rock, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Betty Plowman of Pennsylvania; and daughter Marcia Lambiotte of Ventura.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Camarillo Foursquare Church, 2872 Barry St., Camarillo.

Words cannot express what a presence Uncle David was -- we were separated by distance over the years but every visit was a precious one - I will never forget the stories that he shared - the warmth and kindness he displayed - the special songs that he sang - the wonderful visit that I made a few years ago to California - I wish I could have been there for the standing room only last farewell but he is watching over all of us now - Soar with the Angels Uncle David - you will always be in my thoughts - Big Hugs to Aunt Rose and all of my cousins - I think of you all the time
Love Lisa and the rest of the Akron cousins

On behalf of the entire Lambiotte family, I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words and for sharing their fond memories of my dear father, David Lambiotte. It has been very comforting to hear how his intelligence, wit, warmth, generosity and gregariousness (I could go on and on...) has left such an indelible mark on the lives of so many people, as was evident at the standing-room-only memorial service on Tuesday, November 18. I can confidently say that he would have been humbly honored to know there was a packed house for his "last farewell." He would have been equally delighted to know that some of his favorite anecdotes were re-told, and that laughter was there to offset all the tears.
I feel so very fortunate and proud to have had such a loving and dynamic man for a father (forever "Daddy" to all of his kids). Thanks again to everyone for their kind words and show of support, as they have been truly comforting to our family during this sad time.
I love you the "biggest pile in the whole wide world," Daddy, and will forever miss you.

Dear Rosetta and Family.
It is with a heavy heart that I write this note of sympathy. Dave was a true friend and patriot who always put others ahead of himself. We first meet in the late 70's when Dave and his team at NCEL were working on R&D projects for the Marine Corps. We became close over the years as I visited the Lab and Dave visited Quantico, VA. We shared many occasions of both a social and serious nature. We became close friends and I always looked forward to seeing Dave and "learning" from him both professionally and personally. I was a better person for having known Dave Lambiotte. This is a sad day but we all know that Dave has gone on to be with his Heavenly Father. Frances and I will keep you all in our prayers. God bless you.

We are saddened by the passing of Mr. Lambiotte. The Maher family knew of him and his family when he lived on Napa sreet in Oxnard and my father worked with him at the CBC base. We were childhood friends of his children Marcia and Annie. We were sorry to hear of the passing of Marcia. We had very fond childhood memories of her. My sister Julie remembers David attending our brother Mark's funeral in 1993. She was so touched by his presence. Our father Joseph passed away last year.
Rosetta, Annie and Family,
You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My heartfelt sympathy to Rosetta and family. When I arrived at the Naval Civil Engr Lab in 1970, Dave helped me learn the ropes of working for the federal government, the world of Naval Airfields, and even contributed to my social life.
His irrepressible wit and buoyant outlook will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

My wife are saddened by the news of David's passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. David and I first met in 1965 when he came to work at NCEL. He later was my boss for several years and always encouraged me to get more education and try for higher positions. I left NCEL in 1981 and from the encouragement of David was able to progress to a level in engineering that I had not thought possible. I also shared two memorable trips to Thailand with David to evaluate the pavements at U-tapao Air Force Base.
A great engineer and giving generous man is gone but not forgotten.

So sorry to learn of Mr. Lambiotte's passing. Please forgive me for asking, but as an old friend and classmate of his daughter, Marcia, whom I had fallen out of touch with, I was very shocked and saddened to see that she preceded him in death. Could someone please contact me and tell me when this happened? Thank you

I am saddened by the news of the passing of an old freind and associate and my prayers go out to him and his family. His memory lives on each time we visit a U. S. Marine Base and come upon equipment and procedures which still emanate from David's early efforts in their research and development. He was a dynamic and effective Program Manager who kept the funding coming for a long list of concepts and inventions produced by the engineers of the Naval Civil Engineer Laboratory for the Marine Corps. He could get things done and the Marines loved him for it.
