2007
David Ledesma Ortega Sr., 63, began his journey to an unexplored frontier on Dec. 20, 2007.
David was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Oxnard. He was a lifelong resident of Ventura County.
David was a proud member of the Hells Angels motorcycle club for 29 years. He loved traveling the country with his brothers and was always one of the first ones to the club runs and one of the last ones to leave. Everyone around him was drawn to his larger than life personality.
David was an artisan genius. He was an inventor and entrepreneur. He enjoyed working with stone, metal, wood and anything else that he could get his hands on. He could draw anything, make anything and fix everything.
David is survived by his brothers, Bonifacio "Barney" Ortega of Maine, Richard Ortega of Ventura, Ruben Ortega of Oxnard; son, David L. Oretega Jr., of Ventura and Willow Creek; daughter, Marcie Ortega and her children Jessica L. Ortega of Ojai and David M. Oretega of Ventura; and several Ortega and Ledesma cousins, nieces and nephews. David leaves behind several dear family members and friends, Michele Chapin, David Jr.'s, grandmother, Ruby Abel and former wife, Raylene Ortega. He will be especially missed by longtime friend Sandy Hribernick and her daughter Sarah Wade; and all the worldwide members of the Hells Angels motorcycle club.
David was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bonifacio Ortega and Mary Ledesma Ortega; and brother, Danny Ortega.
Viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main St., Ventura. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at Santa Clara Catholic Church, 323 South E St., Oxnard. A burial service will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H St., Oxnard.
Memorial contributions can be made to the HAMC West Coast, c/o Mike Lynch, P.O. Box 314, Morro Bay, CA 93442.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home.

I met Dave when I was around 7years old, when he and my Dad hit a tree on Ocean Ave.&San Clemente "back in 1976,they shared some scar stories after that and to this day or the last time I was in Ventura that tree still wears a scar as well. Now my Dad has his old buddy Dave to raise hell in heaven. Dave was one of last real bikers, and now he is with the real angels, laughing loud with my Dad.

"Can I help you"...were the first words you spoke to me 18 years ago...and not a day goes by where some words of wisdom, funny memories and stories don't come to mind as I walk thru the studio wondering where It all came from..we finished a monumental granite sculpture..and the black hat we bought with that final payment....you made great drawings and carvings..you taught he how to drill straight holes and turn on a computor...you helped me find my backbone..your eyes twinkled...your dimples..and the he he he in your laugh..your smiling and laughing in all of my photos....you loved kids, and helped me teach them to carve..you invented and fixed everything...I vowed to take care of you and you let me...you were the first Hells Angel I ever knew, and my closest friend...the love and respect from your Hells Angel brothers, friends, and family were always a trip...endless batches of coffee and chocolate chip cookies...and meals and parties in the garden over good food and conversions..my friends all love you...their letters have poured in for weeks..you fixed all of their sculptures, and listened to their problems,,,the 9 cats and toots....31/2 were yours ....in the hospital you said you missed me, us, and the life we had...so do I...I can't see you but I feel your presence everywhere I go...and the answer to your wish is "yes I will"...always. Happy Valentines Day..I found the one you made me.. Heebe the Wild Man...love Betty Crocker, your Desert Warfar Camel

People have very few comforts in this world. Some are comforted by money, worldly posessions, and other frivolous "things". However, my comfort comes from the love of the people in my life and Dave loved me. The last words he spoke to me I will cherish forever. He told me a few days before he passed, that I had made him so happy, I tearfully returned the compliment, and those were his last words to me. I will miss him more than words or emotions can describe. He has been a part of my life as long as I can remember and I thank him for all the wondeful childhood memories that he gave me, all the adult wisdom that he shared with me, and the time that we spend together. I will never forget you, Dave, and you once told me that people never leave you, but they are always in your heart. Dave will always be in my heart.

Unfortunately, I did not find out that David O had passed until the day after his funeral. Ever since then, I've just gone over some great memories of him in my mind. He was one of the nicest men I've ever met with a great sense of humor. I still have the drawing he made of me. I was actually a little afraid of him at first, but as I got to know him, I realized what a big heart he had. I will miss him dearly. He was always a good friend to me. Rest in peace David, and keep riding.

Do not stand by my grave & weep
I am not here
I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am a diamonds glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am a gentle autumn rain
When you awake in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of birds circling in flight
I am the soft-star shine at night
Do not stand by my grave & cry
I am not here
I did not die

My sympathies to David's family. I haven't seen David in many years, but when I knew him, he called me "Teacher" because I was going to school to get my teaching credential and he encouraged me to finish school. I remember that he was a terrific artist and one of the few people who said, "Call me if you ever need anything" and really meant it. He was a kind soul and will be missed.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
