On the evening of Saturday, November 22, 2014 God saw in His infinite wisdom to call Freddie Webb from labor to rest.
Freddie James Webb was born to the union of Anthony and Hattie N. Webb on August 21, 1946 in Oxnard, California. Freddie graduated from Oxnard High School in 1964 and then went to Oxnard College for one year. Freddie served in the U.S. Army (Airborne) for two years and was honorably discharged as a Specialist (SP5). Shortly after serving his time in the Army, Freddie went to work for Wonder Bread as a Driver and then as Manager. Freddie was a hard working man and worked at Wonder Bread for 39 years, never missing work, except at the times of death for his family members.
Freddie and Ella first saw each at a store on Pleasant Valley Road in Port Hueneme while Freddie was delivering bread. It was love at first sight. They would see each other, and always speak to one another and soon after a mutual friend, Bea Thomas, formally introduced them. From that point forward they were together, and the rest is history. Freddie and Ella were blessed to be married for 48 years. Freddie received the Lord at an early age and was a lifetime member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. He was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. He served as Steward Pro-Term for 11 years, and he was also a member of the Male Chorus and Cathedral Choir where he sang until the power of the Lord came down.
He was honored as Bethel's Man of the Year in 2012.
Freddie enjoyed barbequing and also enjoyed sports. He played basketball in his youth and also enjoyed watching basketball, football and other sports on television. Freddie also loved fishing. He loved his family and loved people. He had quite a sense of humor and liked for everyone to get along. Freddie trusted in the Lord which was evident in his faith in God, especially during his last several months.
Freddie is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Hattie n. Webb, and his brothers, Melvin Webb, Jimmy Webb and Jessie West. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Ella M. Webb, daughter Yvette (Stonewall) Washington of Austin Texas; sons Kenneth E. McCullough and Bryant D. McCullough; sisters Luevonia Webb and Anna Webb; mother-in-law Eloise Bibbs; grandchildren Dorothy McCullough, Tawana Stevenson, Lawanda McCullough, Craig Stevenson, James McCullough, Josiah McCullough, Lynlee Harbison, Justin Thomas, Jaylon Thomas, Julian Washington and Stoney Washington, as well as a host of relatives and friends.
The viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, at Bethel AME Church, 855 South F Street, Oxnard. Funeral services will be also celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, at Bethel AME Church in Oxnard. Committal Service will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.
