Gail Wheelock, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away quietly early Christmas morning at home in Westlake Village, just hours after spending a love-filled Christmas Eve with her husband of 48.5 years, Vincent Wheelock; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Donna Wheelock, Thousand Oaks; and granddaughters, Alyssa and Madison.
She is also survived by her sister, Joan Hayes and her family, Palos Verdes. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheri, in 1977.
Gail was born to John (Rod) and Frances (Fannie) Loudon in Huntington Park. Gail grew up in the Glendale/Burbank area, attended Valley State College, and worked for Lockheed and then Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, where she met her future husband, Vince.
The Wheelock family transferred to San Diego and Huntsville, Ala. for Rocketdyne, before settling in Westlake Village in 1967. There, Gail enjoyed her role as mother to Kevin and Sheri, actively supported Vince's aerospace career, and served the community in many ways.
Gail was an active member of the St. Jude's family serving several ministries at the church. Also, as a cancer survivor, Gail was particularly drawn to the Wellness Community in Westlake Village, where she was a dedicated volunteer for many years. During the last twenty years of her life, Gail bravely fought respiratory problems and was blessed to have the support of outstanding friends and medical professionals. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 32032 West Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, 91361. Internment follows at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, 91362.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village, CA 91361, 805-379-4777, or online at www.twcvv.org.
