It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jim “the pool man” Reimers.
With his wife at his side, Jim peacefully left this world and entered the arms of God, Feb. 14, 2009, after a yearlong struggle with ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Jim was a longtime resident of the Conejo Valley. While in high school Jim began working in the swimming pool business. Jim went on to become the owner of CDS Pools and built and serviced many of the finest pools in the community.
Jim carried a deep love of life, of service to his fellows into every aspect of his life. As the youngest of four boys, Jim was exuberant, curious and a constant source of delight and entertainment to his family. He carried that same sense of boundless enthusiasm to his adult life.
In addition to Jim’s endless enthusiasm for service to his fellows in the community, Jim had a love of his family, and enjoying life to the fullest. On any given weekend you could find Jim, his wife and stepchildren in their RV, dirt biking in the desert, boating at Lake Mead, or enjoying the ocean. Jim also loved the Caribbean and was fortunate to have traveled throughout the Caribbean with his wife and stepchildren. Jim’s endless curiosity and eagerness for adventure took his family throughout the country and world, exploring, laughing and loving every moment. Even in the final year of his life, Jim enjoyed to travel, and continued to aspire to help others, even as ALS robbed him of his ability to talk and move.
Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford.
Jim is survived by his wife, Andrea; stepchildren, Jade, Nico and Rose; his brothers, Tom and Jack; and parents, Lois and Jack.
Jim’s passing leaves a deep void in our community. His smile, his laughter, his dedication to his family, fellow man and his love of service will be greatly missed, but we know he will live on in the hearts and souls of all that he touched. The world is a better place because Jim was here.
A celebration of Jim’s life is to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Calvary Community Church, 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village, CA 91362.

Andrea and children: There are few words to express the emotions about Jim's transitioning. His struggle to live with ALS is echoed by so many of our PALS who grief today for the loss. You and Jim were instrumental on keeping the HOPE high as we fought and continue to fight the system to obtain the overdue justice owed to PALS and their families. Jerry and I personally thank you for your courage to take that trip to DC and march in protest to obtain IPLEX for all of us. My thought and prayers are with you and your children knowing that Jim is in a better place today and for eternity. God Bless you and the kids.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I am very happy for Jim that he is now on a new adventure. ALS takes so much from us all. I pray that a cure, or at the very least, long term treatment to keep it under control is found soon.
