Jason McCarthy, beloved son, brother and grandson, went to be with God as result of a tragic accident on Dec. 18, 2006.
Jason was born in San Luis Obispo on July 18, 1968. He played soccer, basketball, baseball and football. He graduated from Camarillo High School in 1986 and from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in 1992. Jason loved life and the outdoors. He loved working out, exercising and hiking, and we know that Jason is now on the highest mountain with God. His many friends will miss his smile, contagious laughter and joyous spirit, which will never be forgotten.
Jason is survived by his parents, Neil and Lola McCarthy; sister, Jamie Wiltfang, her husband, Eric, and their children, Brooke and Blake; grandparents Herb and Pat Woodring; aunts and uncles Jim and Judy Woodring and Ron and Connie Woodring; cousins, Michael, Wesley and Christopher Woodring; and many friends. He is also survived by his grandmother Dene McCarthy; aunts Jeanne McCarthy, Maureen Wilson and Patti Kasper; and uncle Mike McCarthy.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather James McCarthy.
Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, with a service to commence at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1500 North C St., Oxnard. Burial will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary, Westlake Village.

My thoughts go out to Jason's family and friends. I haven't seen Jason in many years. My mother used to babysit Jason and Jamie when they were young. They were at our house most weekdays and I got to know them well during that time. I saw Jason several years ago on a visit to Camarillo and I was met with a big smile and a friendly hello. I have lots of memories of Jason. He was funny and made me laugh often as a kid. I was shocked and very sad to hear of his passing today.

Jason is one of the most unique & spirited individuals I've ever known. Great personality! I always looked forward to seeing him and chatting about something. Running was a popular subject, and I credit Jason with recruiting me into the Steve Prefontaine fan club. I imagine that Jason and "Pre" had a lot in common... personality, drive, etc. It's just ashame that tragic endings is one of them. My wife (the "General" Leigh) and I will truly miss him.

I have known Jason since my early teens. We came to know each other during my summer visits to California, as he lived next door to my Father. Although we had drifted apart after our college years, I have always considered Jason as one of my best friends. I have so many wonderful memories with Jason, from skiing in Colorado, road trips to San Diego, and waterskiing the Colorado River. Thank you my friend for everything you brought into my life.

Jason left a footprint in the life of the people who got the chance to meet him well. I will never forget his sense of humor, jokes, the way he enjoyed his life and the special friend and person he was.
I will miss him..., but I am sure he is having a good time already in heaven, singing and going up hills….
I will never forget you!

To Jason's family,
I am very sorry to hear about Jason. He was a good man and someone I have known for along time. I had the priveledge of playing little league baseball and attending Camarillo High school with Jason. In fact I just spoke with him at the gym about a week before his accident. He was friendly and smiling as usual. We shared a few laughs and continued on with our days activities. I am glad I got that opportunity to speak with Jason. I will miss him indeed.

My deepest sympathies on your loss. Jason was always a joy to work with here at P&G. We enjoyed talking about motorcycle riding and his latest hikes. I understand that you donated his organs. It is so gracious of you to think of others in your time of grief. My husband has a kidney transplant that has improved our lives so much. You and Jason will be blessed daily by those that have received this wondrous gift. Again I'm sorry for your loss, we will all miss Jason.

I am sorry for your loss. I worked with Jason for a short period of time, but he was refreshing and a joy to work with. He left a mark on me to look at the job a little differently. I understand you donated his organs and I would like to thank you for that. My significant other had a kidney transplant on Good Friday, April 9, 2004. The family of the donor turned our lives around. You are truly special people and I believe Jason would have supported this decision. I send holiday thank you cards to the donor family and express our gratitude, I hope the recepients of Jason's organs give you the same gratitude. I know it doesn't take away the pain, but I pray my cards comfort the family knowing their son lives on in our lives. Once again, I am sorry for your loss and will keep you in my prayers.

I Loved Working with Jason! Over the last 10+ years, He would give me a hard time one minute and make me laugh the next! Not to Say eating all my M&M's out of my candy dish.
I know that he is on Top Of The Mountain with God and I'm sure he is Rocking Out, with his song and the his Air Guitar routines.
