John Aloysius Abdoo, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at his home in Ventura, after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 21, 1914, in Uniontown, Pa., and moved to Ventura County from Salem, Ohio.
Mr. Abdoo worked primarily in the steel industry, as well as having served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He greatly enjoyed going to the Derby Club at Seaside Park, Ventura, and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Haller of Ventura; grandchildren Karen Marie Lovelace of Coalinga, Tony Haller of Avenal, Calif., John P. Abdoo of Owasso, Okla., Marlo Crawford of Lutz, Fla., Mike Abdoo of Salem, Ohio., Mimi Johnson of Salem, Ohio, Ronald Scarnecchia of Jacksonville, Fla., Susan Scarnecchia of Niles, Ohio, and Kim Taylor of Niles, Ohio; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; son Dr. John T. Abdoo of Salem, Ohio; and daughter Mary Catherine Scarnecchia of Salem, Ohio.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura. The Rev. Varghese Kaitharan will officiate.
Interment will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
