John B. Lopez, 81, of Moorpark passed away Aug. 2, 2006.
Born in Simi Valley, he was a lifelong resident of Moorpark, where he raised his family and retired after 40 years of employment from Sunkist.
John was a proud member of the American Legion for 38 years and was recently honored in the Ventura County Star as a Mexican-American World War II hero.
John was an avid fan and 38-year season ticket holder for University of Southern California Trojan football. He enjoyed attending Moorpark High School football, soccer and softball games. Furthermore, he enjoyed taking annual fishing trips and attending annual family reunions, held at Yosemite National Park.
John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Laura; children, Bertha (husband Manuel) Barrera, Esther (husband Ernie deceased) Fernandez, Rita (husband Jr.) Hatcher, John (wife Cindy) Lopez and Steve Lopez, all of Moorpark; and siblings, Dario, David, Daniel, Joe, Benny and Louie Lopez and Lupe Casas. John's legacy continues through his 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Susano and Lupe Lopez; grandson, John Marcus Lopez; and brothers, Pete and Sammy Lopez.
His spirit and love of life will live in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7 at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 9 a.. Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Moorpark United Methodist Church, 261 Flory Ave., Moorpark. The Rev. Stephen Hansted Meadows will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Ivy lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home.
