Kathleen "Katie" Ruth Cashman, aged 66, died peacefully on September 1, 2016 at home in Simi Valley, California, after a brief struggle with cancer. Katie was born June 2, 1950, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the daughter of Lyle Kirk Shores and Dolores Ruth Shores and had two older brothers, Kirk and Jeff.

Katie had many hobbies that she thoroughly enjoyed throughout her life.? As a young adult, Katie was in the glee club and a cheerleader for Ganesha High School in Pomona, California. As Katie grew up she developed a passion for cooking, baking and reading.? Her cookbook inventory was robust and she had abundant taste testers readily available.? Katie received several first place awards in various cooking contests and was known for numerous signature dishes.? In addition to these hobbies, you could find Katie at the shooting range, the lake fishing or watching movies with her adoring husband.

Katie built a strong reputation as an estate planning legal secretary in both Santa Barbara and Ventura County.? She began her career at Schramm & Raddue in 1980,?and retired from Arnold LaRochelle Mathews VanConas & Zirbel, LLP in 2012.?In addition to raising two children and mastering her profession, Katie was the President of the Legal Secretaries Association in 1989 and an active notary public over the course of her 30 year career.? In 1993,?Katie married the love of her life James "Kelly" Cashman in Santa Barbara, California, and later moved to Simi Valley.

Most importantly, Katie had a zest for life and an incredible sense of humor.? She always had a smile, laughed easily and anyone who had the privilege of knowing her knew they'd met a great person.?

Katie is survived by her mother, Dolores, brother, Kirk and husband Kelly Cashman of Simi Valley, CA; daughter, Kristin Chambers and son, John Chambers; grandchildren, Ashley Chambers and Hunter Dahlen of Santa Barbara, CA, Taryn, Kira and Jazlynn Chambers of Discovery Bay, CA and Gavin Cashman of Bakersfield, CA; 3 nieces and 2 nephews, 1 aunt, 2 uncles, and 2 great grandchildren.

There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at Cavalry Cemetery in Santa Barbara and a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM November 18, 2016 at Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society with a card sent to Kristin Chambers at 102 N. Hope Ave., #48, Santa Barbara, CA 93110.
