Lorene was born April 26, 1922, in Charleston, Ark., and had been a resident of Ventura for 73 years moving here from Arkansas. Lorene had been employed in the Human Resources Department at Pt. Lorene will be dearly missed by all. She is survived by her daughters, Pat Bese (Ken) and Sharon Oliver (Mike); son-in-law, Carl Slate; caregivers/grandchildren, Aaron George and Cathy Burke; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Earl Berkshire; daughter, Diana Slate; and great-grandson, Cody Doolittle. Lorene is the last surviving of seven children.

Visitation will take place 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura, with The Reverend Dan Hull officiating.

Oh my beautiful Grandma, I miss you more than anyone could imagine. I loved being right next door to you for over 25 years! I love the thought of starting a family of my own in the same house you and Grandpa had when your family started growing early on. I love that my girls got to see you almost everyday of their lives and they sure miss their Great Grandma. I am so blessed to have had you for so long and to have learned so much from you, you were the BEST. I miss seeing your beautiful face every morning and through out the day. Thanks for hanging in for so long even tough I know some days were so very hard for you. I know you are in a better place now, where you can be in peace and back with the ones you loved that left life before you. I love and miss you Grandma SO much and with all of my heart, not a day passes where you're not with me. Thanks for all the beautiful memories I will cherish for the rest of my life. xoxo

I miss Grandma so much. I have so many memories of Grandma and Grandpa that I will cherish forever. Grandma was the kindest, sweetest, most loving and gracious woman anyone could ever know. Grandma taught us the important things in life. After Ryan was born, Grandma took care of him while I worked. One day when I was holding him at her house on one of my many breaks I took during the day, I asked her how I was supposed to continue leaving him every day. She told me that I should do what she did, and find a way to stay home and work. My mom, her firstborn who was able to enjoy having her own mother at home during her childhood, helped me get started working at home. Grandma taught me the value of being home with my three boys, as she did for her three girls. Grandma knew the value of family, and she taught her family those values. Grandma always made you feel welcome the second you walked into her home, as though she had been waiting for that second all day. I remember as a child how special it was to spend the nights at Grandma and Grandpa's house, and I continued with that same comforting feeling well into adulthood. There was no place like Grandma and Grandpa's house. Grandma, I will miss you every day of my life. I love you so much! Cathy and Aaron, I thank you so much for taking such good care of Grandma these last couple of years. Any of us would have done it had we been closer, but it wasn't any of us - it was you. I love you both so much for making sure that Grandma stayed home where she wanted to be, close to family. We are blessed with a wonderful family, starting with Grandma and Grandpa, all the way down the line with parents, aunts, cousins, sisters, children. We all had such wonderful teachers.

I will miss my beautiful Mother until the day I die and I am sure I will think of her daily. She was such a wonderful person and lovely lady. My life was full of love from her and Daddy my entire life. I cannot recall any time in my life that I was not made to feel special in their eyes. She loved her family so very much. To the grandchildren, thank you for all you did for your grandma. To the great grandchildren, thank you for visiting your great grandmother. It meant more to her than you can ever know. Thank you all for your beautiful posts.

Dear Family,
Lorene was a lady in every sense of the word. She was always so kind and friendly to all of us girls at the bank where she and Earl did their banking. She was one of the special ones you never forget. She left a wonderful legacy of family behind who were greatly enriched by her presence. May she remain in your heart forever.

To Pat and Sharon we send our thoughts and prayers to each of you and your families! The Legacy to live up to is much easier, when you had such a great teacher in your Mom. One of the greatest memories for me was the 1st "Arkansas Picnic" that we ever attended. All the great "home cooked food", the fried chicken, mac&cheese, corn bread, and there I was introduced to "Butter Milk Pie" UMMY! I'm not sure who made that pie, it was either your mom, or Exie! That year I fell in love with the two ladies that I had heard so much about... Exie & Lorene! Wow, all I know is, from that time on, every picnic that we were able to attend, those two would make sure that no one touched my pie, because they made it just for me, my name is Gene Thurman, and my sons and I were blessed and honored to have in our lives Jeanine Rae Cone, the daughter of Noel & Anne Cone, and sister to Janice. Thank you so much for the love your MOM gave to us. I hope that we were part of the dash in her life, I know we were, just like everyone she met in her life!!!

Lorene was a wonderful person. We worked at Pt. Mugu together in the Career Delopment Div. in the 1970's. She was a sweet heart, a very garcious lady. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend the service for I just had surgery. Charley Shelton (Camarillo Ca.)

You will be missed by so many people. I will miss walking up to your house and seeing you in the window washing dishes. I will miss sitting with you and watching the Dodgers. I was lucky to have you for so long. I was so happy to give you a great-great grand daughter and for you to be at my wedding. I know you are with Grandpa and Diana now. We will always love you. I wish I could give you some sugar one more time.
