Nancy Lewis, 58, died Dec. 6, 2005, with many who loved her at her bedside, after a brief but courageous fight against cancer.
Nancy was born in Glendale, Calif., and grew up in that area. She moved to the state of Montana as a young adult, but spent most of her recent life in Ventura County.
During the past year she lived with her husband, Robert, in Barbados. Nancy and Robert were longtime Jehovah's Witnesses and had many joyous experiences in the ministry while in Barbados. They were vacationing in Camarillo and preparing to return to Barbados when Nancy became suddenly and tragically ill.
Nancy was loved dearly by many in Barbados. The loving expressions she has received from there prove that she will be sorely missed.
Nancy was a truly honest and loving person who found great joy in helping people. She touched the lives of many by her acts of loving kindness. Nancy was truly a good person and her death leaves a painful void that will not easily be filled.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Robert; brother Willie Popelka, his wife, Barbara, and their children; sister, Jo Ann Hammond; and brother Ray Popelka.

Robert and Nancy Lewis were a wonderful addition to the Wildey Congregation. Robert was always ready with a compliment as i walked into the Hall and Nancy an infectious smile and a warm hug. I really miss Nancy and i often look at her obituary photo as that's the only one i have of her. Nancy gave me her "Crazy Chocolate Cake" recipe and i honor her by baking as often as i can, when anyone ask or commmend me on the cake i say sister Lewis. That spells the kind of person she was thoughtful and giving. I long to see her in paradise.

A wind, a flame; so quickly you pass away. The desert, the ocean; how your love quenched our thirst. Your beauty-timeless. Your sincerity-true. How we all miss you. Proverbs 31:10; Ecclesiastes 3:4. We await your renewal of life and love.

Dear Bob, Words cannot express what we feel in our hearts. We are touched by the love that you felt and feel for Nancy. My three brief encounters with her were warm and indelible, including the last time I spoke to her on the phone a few days before she went to sleep. I could tell she was a wonderful, positive & brave person. The brief time you were able to share life and love with her became a thing of beauty as noted by your expressions. We know you to be a very caring person in all you do from your dedication to Jehovah, your family, the congregation, your friends, and the sheep yet to be found. We are deeply inspired by WHO you have proved to be. We mourn your loss of a fine wife and companion and look forward to getting to really know her in God's New World so near at hand. May Jehovah keep you safe in His loving care as you continue to walk in His paths. May this time of walking through this period of "gloom" be brief as you keep your eyes on the prize. Be assured of our warm Christian Love and Supplication in your behalf. Larry and Tina

We met Bob and Nancy when they first came to Barbados. We were so happy to hear that they were going to be living here and being with us at Wildey Congregation. We will always remember our dearest sister and friend – for me she was a future confidante for I knew that if ever I needed to talk, she would be the one. Her sincerity and openness drew you to her. My 11 yr. old son said that she reminded him of a little girl because she was always so bubbly. My daughter enjoyed the openness and acceptance of an older adult and they became fast friends. We have Nancy’s delicious banana bread recipe and her reflexology tape (always ready to share) – for us little mementos of Nancy, our dear friend. We look forward to seeing her again in the new system. Yes, Robert, we could all see that you and Nancy were very happy and although different, did indeed complement each other beautifully.

Bob, one of my greatest regrets is having missed getting to know Nancy better. I remember how warmed I was at the wedding when I saw her big smile and friendly way of meeting "EVERYONE." Then when she took off her shoes and walked in her stocking feet, I knew she was a winner and a person I had to get to know better. It is comforting to know that all I have to do is wait "a little while longer" and WE shall have that chance.

Dear Bob,
You have been a source of help and comfort for me in almost every tragedy in my life. You always were a part of the solution. I hope that my expression of gratitude for having you and Nancy as friends and spiritual family members is a source of comfort to you. I to have many lost to our enemy death that I will be ecstatic to see return may we stand together on that day. Your Brother in the faith,

"A true companion is loving all the time, and is a brother that is born for when there is distress." (Prov.17:17)
That's the kind of companion Nancy was. She always had a beautiful smile on her face, she had a nice thing to say to everybody, and she made everybody feel special and very much loved. I miss her smile and her comments at meetings and I loved her sense of humor. I am very happy, that I got to know her, even if it was just for a short time. I am really looking forward our wonderful resurrection hope, when we can have her back and serve Jehovah forever with her.

Bob, Deon and I pray that you continue to walk with Jehovah as stong as you did while Nancy was alive. You and I know that she would expect that of you. Continue to trust in "the God of comfort" as you serve with Nancy in spirit.. 2Cor 1:3,4

Nancy came to Barbados and lived here for a short while. She attended the Wildey Congregation and brought a rare kind of freshness to it. She was easy to love, in fact she actually grew on you. Her infectious laughter, that beautiful voice - are gone - (but only for a short time) and will ever be missed. She was genuine, honest, helpful and caring - always ready to assist others. She once said to me: "if I live, I live to Jehovah, and if I die I die to Jehovah". Knowing that she died to Jehovah makes me more determine to remain loyal to Him so that I will see her again in Paradise. Just imagine, in the Paradise earth when all sicknesses and physical infirmities will all be healed! God's Word assures us: "No resident will say: 'I am sick.'" (Isaiah 33:24)

Dear Robert,
Our friendship stretches back over 47 years. I still appreciate your help back in 1959, to enter the full time service. Thank you so much.
During one conversation I had with Nancy, it was her witty sense of humor and warm personality that came through. Truly, yours is a story of trust in Jehovah, I know you will continue in that course.

I have a lot of memories of my Aunt while growing up, but one ALWAYS stands out...when she was living with us I was maybe 6 or 7 years old. I would watch her put on her makeup everyday. She put her eyeliner on me, I had to stand perfectly still (as a little girl, that was real hard for me). To this day, when I put on eyeliner I always think of her, and I know she is watcing me do this. It's the small things that we remember the most, especially as a kid. I miss you Aunt Nancy, every single day! Are the angels putting eyeliner on you? Rondalynn

"Has one found a good wife?...one gets goodwill from Jehovah." Prov. 18:22. "...a discreet wife is from Jehovah." Prov. 19:14. Nancy was indeed a gift from Jehovah and ours was a marriage made in heaven. We fulfilled one another completely. Oh, that all marriages could share the joy that we daily experienced. She was the most beautiful woman I have ever known and I will love her forever. On her death bed we prayed that Jehovah would allow us to worship Him, together, eternally. The enemy death has taken her but she will surely be raised in the resurrection. John 5:28, 29. So, I continue to pray-that God Jehovah keep me until Nancy and I are reunited to worship Him, together, eternally. Loving husband, Robert
