Nicandro Flores Benavides, 85, of Oxnard, CA, joined his beloved wife, Guadalupe, on July 31, 2014.
He was born on December 5, 1928 in El Mirador, Moyagua, Zacatecas to Anastacio Benavides Rodriguez and Clemencia Flores Saucedo. Nicandro and Guadalupe were married on August 15, 1958, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and enjoyed 53 years of marriage, until Lupe's passing in 2012.
Nicandro met Guadalupe, while visiting family in Guadalajara. After marrying and the birth of their first child, he wanted to move back to the United States. He was able to find a job at the General Motors plant in Van Nuys and soon after brought his family to live with him in Oxnard. He and Lupe enjoyed traveling. Among the places they visited were Europe, the Greek Islands, Puerto Rico and many parts of Mexico. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, "gallero" and gardener. He loved taking the family on camping trips and spending time in his garden.
Our father was a generous and caring man, who believed in working hard, sacrificing when necessary, and keeping one's word. We will miss him dearly but we're comforted in knowing he is now in heaven.
Nicandro is survived by his children, Noemi Valdes (and Ricardo), Nick, Robert (and Raylene), Maria Elena Acosta (and James), Jerry (and Rachel), nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Anastacio Benavides of Woodlake, CA and Andres Rodriguez of Firebaugh, CA, along with many, many nieces, nephews, compadres y comadres and godchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and his brother, Augustin Benavides.
Rosary Service will be on Thursday at 7:00 pm at the Perez Family Funeral Home in Camarillo. Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Oxnard, with internment immediately following at Santa Clara Cemetery.
