Phil passed away from liver cancer on the evening of February 9th. He died at home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Phil was born on Father's day, June 18th 1950 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Henry and Iva Ridgway. He was the youngest of four.
In 1957 the family moved to Casitas Springs. They moved to Ventura in 1963. He attended De Anza Jr. High and Ventura High school, graduating in 1968. Wanting to venture out, he moved to Portland Oregon in 1972 but his love for the ocean and beauty of Ventura drew him back in 1980. At that time, he worked as a carpenter and a mason.
In 1982 he met Marian Charles on the beach and this was the beginning of a 33 year long friendship and marriage.
In 1984 he obtained an airframe and power plant license and began his career in the aircraft industry. He worked as a mechanic at Tracor Aviation in Goleta for 15 years.
In 1986 Phil and Marian welcomed their first born daughter, Alana. Three years later in 1989 their son Colton was born. These years were the light of his life and brought him much joy. Wanting to be closer to home and his family, he decided to purchase a pool and spa business servicing the Ventura area. I
n 2004 he was hired by Aspen Helicopters and he continued his aircraft mechanics at Oxnard airport. He enjoyed the many friendships he made there and was grateful for all the travel they provided to different parts of the country. He retired from Aspen in 2014. He had many interests including the love of all animals, playing his many guitars, treasure hunting, surfing, scuba diving, skiing, motorcycle riding, camping, fishing, driving his bass boat and hot rod and many others.
He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend Marian Ridgway, daughter Alana Ridgway and son Colton Ridgway. Hisstep father Boyd Blevins and his children Larry and Diane, sister Ivanell Chesser, brother in law Jim Grennan, sister in law Doris Vest and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his mother in law Sarah Thompson, brothers in law John Charles and Larry Harrold, sisters in law Ginger Charles and Linnea Harrold and several more neices, nephews cousins, aunts and uncles.
