Richard Wray Obituary

Richard "Dick" Rupert Wray, 83, founder of Conejo Upholstery, passed away on October 23, 2008.

Richard was born September 17, 1925, in Magna, Utah, to Frank and Mary Wray. He enlisted on September 8, 1943, in the United States Army Air Force and served as a radio operator, mechanic and gunner 757 in the Western Pacific and was honorably discharged on April 1, 1946.

He learned the trade of auto upholstery and worked for Rayco Seat Coverings in St. Louis, Mo., Salt Lake City, Utah and Canoga Park, Calif. On April 1, 1964, he and his ex-wife Jean Wray Thompson started their own auto upholstery company called Conejo Upholstery in Thousand Oaks. Dick taught his four sons the trade and passed on the company business to them.

He is survived by his first son, Richard Michael Wray, daughter-in-law Vilia of Cayucos; and their two children, Eric, wife Kelley, and Naté. His only daughter, Patricia Ann Spencer, son-in-law Jeff of Simi Valley; and their two sons, Derek Richard, wife Heidi; and their children, Julia, Luke, Cole, a baby boy to be born February 2009, and Brandon Spencer. His second son, Robert Alan Wray, daughter-in-law Laura; and their two daughters, Laura Jean and Rachel of Newbury Park. His third son, Donald Wray, daughter-in-law Sari of Paso Robles, Calif.; and their two children, Donald and Ashley. His fourth son, Thomas Lee Wray of Thousand Oaks.

We are thankful that God gave you a personality with a sense of humor and wit. You have brought much joy to others. We will miss you. Dad, thank you for giving us life.

I'm thinking of you all at this sad time. I pray that your memories will give you great comfort. I have wonderful memories from high school days of going to Conejo Auto Upholstery to say "hi." Dick would always give Vilia and I a welcome smile. You are all in my prayers.
